Hi All,
Please help me..
My daughter PR just been approved.
I want her to study here in local school. Curently she is studying in Indonesia (primary school)..
Anyone can share your experience? Any procedures or link references for me to follow?
As suggested by MOE to contact the school directly or get the help from MOE to find the school , last week i called few schools in SG to ask the procedures and ask if there is empty slot. But all of them said their school is full.

MOE is the correct answer. You may have to wait for the next school year (Jan 2017) to get a spot.

MOE said since my daughter is holding PR status she can join local school at any point of time. But the problem is if possible i want to place her in the favourite local school If we depend with MOE perhaps or high chance they will put in non favourite local school.

Nobody is guaranteed a placement in a specific government school. Citizens come first in priority, then PRs.

It will be MOE's choice which school to place a PR student.

You should contact MOE and just follow the procedures from there, for your information in Singapore all schools generally are good school. I have seen few years back those foreign students (PR and Dependent Pass) went to school very far from their home because the schools nearby are full - how I know? Because I'm a kaypoh person - chat with those helpers that fetch them. So, you must be ready for this scenario to happen to your child.

iLoveRice is right - the MOE has levelled out the school system dramatically in the last few years... while some elite schools still exist they are extremely hard to get into.

Fantabulous reply folks.
One more thing.. my daughter language in her current school is Indonesian language. Due to the non english school in Indonesia normally Indonesian people will delay 1 year before go to school. They hire private tutor for 1 year. Can anyone give me input if this is necessary and how to determine if this is necessary or not. Is it decided by MoE test result?

Unlike years gone by, It is extremely difficult to get into your school of choice. In fact, it is difficult for a local to get into they school of choice unless their siblings when there before them, or they live within one Km of the school. All applicants for a school must list 5 schools in the order that they would prefer. Even then, not all get into one as most school have to ballot for remaining places before it even get to PRs. PRs could find themselves having to travel across the island to find a school opening. That's just the way it is.

PS, unofficial news from somebody who experienced.
The ranking is, Born 2nd or 3rd SG 1st, 1st generation SG next, and then the PR .. seems there is some sorting out within first generations and second / third generations ..

No they mustn't. If you start with that attitude then you don't understand Singapore. Why should we (the taxpayers) carry the burden of an education system if caters to more than SC and PR? And before one of you subconn EP's pipes up and says that your tax covers the cost of your kid's education I assure you it doesn't....

Hell if you're going to criticise Singapore I'd say you need to start with questioning as to why you can't get a decent education in Indonesia. Sorry but you've really annoyed me.
