Advice re: Mid-Year Admission to International School

Post by ivysmom » Sun, 24 Apr 2016 7:14 am

Hi,

We are a U.S. family (potentially) moving to SG with our 3 kids (11, 9 and 5). It's looking like (for business reasons) this wouldn't happen until around the holidays. I know most schools offer January admission, but I don't have a good feel for how unusual it is, what disadvantages (or possible advantages?) exist for a January start. If anyone has gone down this road, I would appreciate your thoughts. Our kids are quite adaptable, but they would be coming from a very small private school in the US to (likely) a large International School in SG and the combination of that change with a mid-year transition kind of freaks me out. But maybe these schools are so transitory it's not a big deal. Thanks for any advice.

I don't really consider International Schools in Singapore 'large'. The best source of info is the admissions director for your preferred school. My wife says admissions at any time of year are somewhat common.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
