PR: Living outside for a year

Post by pradivce » Thu, 14 Apr 2016 11:15 am

I have been working in Singapore for around four years, and my wife is working here for three years. Now, I am planning to go for MBA and will come back to join the same organization. I have offers from a couple of good institutes including NUS. However, I am planning to Join Oxford as I got a very enticing scholarship from the Institute.

Now, my question – if I stay outside Singapore for over a year then will I need to spend another 3 years before applying for PR.

Btw, we both are in Indians and in our early 30s with

Has anyone gone through a similar situation?

HR is also now telling me that I have to cancel my EP and reapply for it when I come back after a year.

I am pretty sure to convince the Govt that you wish to be a "permanent resident" it probably would help if you were here longer than 5 minutes before going off somewhere else. What you are doing doesn't lend itself to permanency.

Thank you Barnsley for writing your perspective.
All the people I have spoken to - including a visa consultant -are saying the same thing.
It seems like I should start thinking beyond Singapore/my current organization.
