Can an LTVP+/LOC Holder Sponsor Parents?
Can an LTVP+/LOC Holder Sponsor Parents?
Hi all,
I tried searching on MoM and ICA and couldn't find anything directly on point. I am currently on an employment pass and meet the required income threshold to sponsor my parents for an LTVP. My wife is Singaporean as is our child. It seems that I should be able to sponsor my parents for the LTVP.
However, I was also considering switching from an E-Pass to the LTVP+/Letter of Consent route (my wife and I have been married for 4.5 years). This makes me more attractive to local employers since I don't count against their foreigner quota and I get more security in terms of not being booted out of the country should I lose my job. However, it appears that an LTVP+/LOC holder is not in a position to sponsor his own parents for an LTVP, even if their salary is the same as when they were on a E-Pass?
Do others agree with my reading of the information?
It's a curious result and I can see why since the LTVP+ isn't technically linked to employment, but the easy fix would be to institute the same financial threshold requirements for LTVP+/LOC holders' ability to sponsor their parents and link the parents' LTVP to the LOC (so if it gets canceled, so does the parental LTVPs).

Re: Can an LTVP+/LOC Holder Sponsor Parents?
my 2 cents: LTVP+ / LOC holder can't sponsor their parents. Move to your OWN EP and if you qualify, you may stand a chance there.dj6182 wrote:Hi all,

My 2 cents: reread the post. OP IS on an EP. What was you sayin' about me yesterday?

Re: Can an LTVP+/LOC Holder Sponsor Parents?
If you're looking for greater immigration stability, how about switching to a Personalised Employment Pass (if your income permits) or to Permanent Residence? The PEP is a once per lifetime EP valid for 3 years but is not tied to a specific employer. The PEP tolerates up to 6 months between jobs. (In practice, for most people, it's a maximum of one such spell of unemployment per PEP.) PR has its pros and cons, but one advantage is immigration stability.

Ok, I was answering this

Yes, I could have used better wording
Re: Can an LTVP+/LOC Holder Sponsor Parents?
no, LTVP cannot sponsor parents. I tried and got the answer from ICA officers directly.
(and PRs cannot sponsor parent-in-laws either). Not sure about Singaporeans

But PR can take care of Parents-in-Laws if those PiLs happen to be Singaporeans!

That's too bad. Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond!
Edit: Worth clarifying that I have already been rejected for PR once and not sure if I'll restart the process anytime soon (or even if it would be worthwhile, I am Indian). Although from the sounds of it, PR doesn't allow me to get my parents an LTVP anyway. Sounds like LTVP+ will be the way to go for stability reasons and my parents will just have to deal with the regular SVP process.

PRs can (also) sponsor their parents for LTVPs. Just not in-laws (and you didn't ask about them). EP or PR (either way), there's no guarantee your parents' LTVPs would be approved, but sponsorship is possible. For EP holders there's an explicit, minimum S$10K/month fixed monthly salary threshold to sponsor parents.dj6182 wrote:Although from the sounds of it, PR doesn't allow me to get my parents an LTVP anyway.
If you're in $10K+ territory on your EP then you're at least not far off from $12K+ PEP territory. If that works, great. Or you could hang onto your EP until it starts to "wobble," i.e. you're getting signals that your employer might be letting you go. Whereupon you and your wife would get a LTVP(+) application filed for you. In the meantime, especially if there's some new development (another child, salary increase, promotion, better job, etc.), you could take another run at PR in due course.
Lots of options, really.
