Hi All,
The purpose of me starting this topic is to understand the more intangible aspects of the PR application process. For example, is there anything of myself that I can shine light on to improve my chances.. Or is there something I should not do that will definitely shoot me in my foot?
My stats
Sex: Female
Age: 25
Race: Malaysian Chinese
Profession: IT Consultant
Salary: 2.4K Basic, 5.1K Gross (more on this later)
Marital Status: Single
Work Pass: Employment Pass
Degree: Bsc. Molecular Biotechnology (Hong Kong)
Years in SG: 1 Year 9 Months
My Situation:
Have been working for the same MNC since I graduated. 2 years ago, they posted me to SG for an assignment. So, I am part of the Malaysian office but working for SG projects. (1) My payslips are in Malaysian ringgit but I hold an EP. Called the ICA, and they told me it is fine. I just need to convert the payslips to SGD. I do get compensated for staying here which is why my gross income is more than double of my basic..(2) My company will not fill in Annexe A for me because it is against company policy to do that for a non SG employee. However, what they will do instead is to write me a letter with details of my employment here.
Secondly, I have been meaning to transfer to the SG office but the process has been held up as my company is facing an issue with the ratio of foreigners. So, although I may not be part of the SG office at the moment, my managers are supportive of me staying in SG until the transfer materialise. In fact, I have been encouraged to apply for this PR since (1) I intend to stay here permanently (2) It will make my office transfer easier
Lastly, I plan to stay in SG for the Long term because I have been dating a Singaporean for about 2 years now and we have plans to settle down here..
My questions
1. Is it acceptable to type write the form? Or is handwritten submission the better choice?
2. Will it be an advantage or a disadvantage if I submit a cover letter with my application?
3. Will it help if my manager writes a recommendation letter for me? (He insisted but I am unsure if it will help)
4. Is it even worth bringing my relationship up? Although it's the main reason why I want to settle down here, I just see where it fits in the application.
5. Do you think my basic salary is my biggest disadvantage?
Please let me know your thoughts! Or if you have any questions... Thanks!
