PR Application Preparation and Chance?

Post by fm29 » Fri, 25 Mar 2016 11:09 pm

Hello All,

I have been checking and being silent reader to this forum since last year and now have some questions to the Seniors and Expert here to advice on my preparation and comment about my chance to get the PR approve. I have made an e-appointment with ICA for the docs submission this coming May.

I believe My background and profile is needed to begin;

1. Indonesian, Male, 28 yo. married with 2 daughter. Planning to apply for myself at this stage.

2. EP Holder, Senior Telecomm consultant for the past 3 years in Singapore.

3. Just finished my Engineering (Hons) Degree last month and still waiting for the graduation and certificate (I got a letter of completion from the School though). Study in Singapore (Awarded by UK Uni).

4. 11 years experience in Telco industry (yes i started working very early at 17 :) ) including abroad experience as consultant in the past 7 years (Canada, South Africa, SG).

5. Annual Salary: ~SGD 110k. And have 2 times tax assessment in SG. (Will be 3 with the 2015 one)

My questions are:
1. Doesn't include my family at this stage. does it affect my chance?

2. Currently I am working for local client and my contract with current client is due on July this year. The extension of the contract to the client is depend on "something" by Q2. However, I am concerned, with lets say the worst case the project would really ends by July, in this case, by right my company will cancel my EP. BUT, based on the information i got from my colleague, that (if company agree) I can retain the EP until maybe 3 months, with hope that I'll get some result (although I know the result can take very long time) or maybe my company can get another project with another client for me or maybe I can get another job. (I would not receive any payment from company within this 3 month. Is it a good/legal practice to hold EP for sometime without any monthly income from the company?

3. If lets say my project with current client is finish by July and above scenario is Not good practice/ illegal, would it be OK for my application if I look for another Job by June, and accept any position although lower salary, just to keep me here until the PR result is announce, or it will affect my profile since my income will be reduce.

4. Study in local public Uni With certificate awarded by UK university, does it make plus point? Or it doesnt matter as long as I have degree? And passed all the subject including my FYP, but haven't receive the certificates yet, can I consider i finished the course in my application? I will attach letter of completion from the School along with my application.

4. Aside from 4A, do I need to prepare some short letter explaining my profile and my long term plan/aim?

5. My chance to get PR?

Thanks to the Mods for this awesome informative forum.

Per general consensus, yes, negatively. PR is for residence. You don't intend to live with your children and spouse in Singapore? They with you?
2. ....Is it a good/legal practice to hold EP for sometime without any monthly income from the company?
That wouldn't be legal, so no.
3. ....would it be OK for my application if I look for another Job by June, and accept any position although lower salary, just to keep me here until the PR result is announce, or it will affect my profile since my income will be reduce.
A salary reduction would be a negative indicator, but it would be better than the alternative of departure from Singapore.
4. Study in local public Uni With certificate awarded by UK university, does it make plus point? Or it doesnt matter as long as I have degree? And passed all the subject including my FYP, but haven't receive the certificates yet, can I consider i finished the course in my application? ICA reportedly wants to see the diploma, but just truthfully describe and provide what you have. If, for example, that's "all coursework completed; diploma to be awarded in June, 2016" then say so.

The quality of the institution and course of study are important.
4. Aside from 4A, do I need to prepare some short letter explaining my profile and my long term plan/aim?
It is not required if ICA doesn't ask for it.

They are back home in Jakarta at the moment, since my wife is currently working and run a Family Business. I am planning to bring them once I got a permanent position. As I mentioned my current project is only until July. Why is it Negative? I only have 2 daughter not son, so I think not include them now won't makes ICA think that I am planning to escape from NS for my kids.

The government doesn't say much, but it does say it wants to encourage stable nuclear families. A solo PR application with family remaining outside Singapore (and not applying) is not obviously consistent with the government's stated goals.

You need to include your family IMO. On your salary you can afford to keep them here (PR rates for kids in school FYI).
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Thanks for your advise PNGMK. Yes, now I am also thinking to apply for them as well.

Btw, I didn't mentioned that my first daughter is actually my Step Daughter, from my wife first married and she's 14yo now. And second one is 2yo. Any comment on that? Can comment on my overall chance to get the PR?

If there is a court order giving your wife custody of the 14 yo then include her. If the arrangement is informal and the 14 yo wants to come to Singapore include her but be prepared to show documentation establishing the custody.

Congrats and thanks for the update. Did you apply for all of your family as well?

Thanks PNGMK!

Not at this time, because when I booked the e-appointment in 2015, I booked only for 1 applicant (which only for me). They didn't allowed me to apply for my family when I submit the docs. The officer told me, only after my application approved then I can apply for them.
