A master room in a Shared apartment Is not a shared "room".

I would think your budget should be fine. I moved late last year and rents were on the low side and landlords were willing to negotiate. I believe things have only continued downwards. I'm in the East but the downturn is Sg wide.

Landlords are willing to negotiate, but not the agents :D :D

I think you can consider Jurong or Clementi areas as they should be affordable for you. And i agree that bus services are faster especially during the peak periods.
