FT = 'Foreign Talent'. An awkward term coined by the government. 'Expats' might be a more appropriate term in the context of this topic
IME = In my experience...

Are you gathering info for a piece on the SPG phenomenon?

Ohhh....

More like gathering info for my own so I can spot which one is SPG. :mrgreen:

Base on the stories told by my friends, I am actually amazed by them. Also being amazed by people who label a person as SPG. It is interesting to see and view from different point of view.

Looks like it is still a fertile hunting ground.

I actually feel quite sorry for most SPGs. They can see it as a ticket out, but they don't realise that their man outside of SG will not have the same lifestyle as he typically enjoys in SG. And green contacts, spandex and fakies don't tend to go down too well with the likely educated/conservative relatives back home in FT-land. Plus there is major culture and climate shock to overcome. I knew one who went the whole way, marriage and making the leap to Europe. He was a really nice and genuine guy, she was highly bimbotic, but the first EU winter was enough for her, she flew back to mother and he divorced her. No one came out of that any the happier...

re: 'labelling'. Every waking day is made up of a series of interactions which if you like are really just inter-personal transactions. SPGs are reputed to be rather gold-digger types, so the flipside is they can be considered back with something a bit less than entire respect, since their motives are sometimes calculated and not entirely 'pure'. I don't think one can blame the girls for that, but if it raises a smile and knowing look I think that is to be expected by all parties.

We used to go to Tanjong Beach with friends and hang out there. Not too far so we can listen and enjoy the music and drink eat food we bought from 7 11 or food court.

Even if when we were there, all I see is just bunch ppl hanging out, or play volley ball.No hunting thou, but again, I might be wrong.

I assume he is your friend. Sorry for his life experience. Hope he find someone who is worth his love, vice versa.

Aside from yellow fever, I suppose there is no other label for male expats.

Nope. She was from within the wider side of the SGn half of our family, I only met him once out socially. That was a few years back, I expect he has moved on by now.

Some people adopt accents 'to be cool', but that's a very different thing. Others, like perhaps students who travel abroad to study in UK, US, Aus etc, come back home and maintain their switched accents. Perhaps in such cases it's more about 'Look at me, I've been living abroad, I'm different'. More about consciously showing off a difference, than subconsciously seeking affinity.
You haven't lost it JR8. 62 words to say exactly the same thing I said in three. :lol:

Nah, just working on my new productivity drive. Looks good on the KPIs, you know, doing the same with a lot less work/effort. Efficiency push. :-)

Haven't you a TLA for this 'productivity drive'? Typing out the latter in full seems a little counter-productive .... hehe...

Mebbe PDE, which could sub for Public Display of Efficiency?

What, write 3 lines to explain it like you just did, instead of 1? ;-)
