Re: vicious pop-up adds
I'm not having pop-ups on the forum at all. Could it be something inside of your linux OS that's allowing it? The only one I've been getting is from other sites which let that damned Alibaba B2B site window to pop up in a new window.

To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late
Re: vicious pop-up adds
It looks exactly like a porn site at the moment. I mean, at least as I was told by some perverted colleagues of mine and Raj above.
What happens, at one point it loads this ugly magenta search call out and then it starts opening full size windows. It happens on firefox but not chrome, and yes, under Linux.
For example, this s*t just popped up:
http://xmr.weaningassassinated.com/Sust ... MuY29tIn1d

My guess, it is just very badly written functional ads extension. The so called software "engineers" aka programmers made it working only under windows. "This site is optimized for Internet Explorer 7.2 and best viewed with resolution 1024x768" (because we are too dumb/lazy/whatever to do it properly adhering to the standards).

Re: vicious pop-up adds
temp fix. install Adblock plus for mozilla firefox and ghostery.. that should prevent those from happening.

Re: vicious pop-up adds
I had adblock plus already, installed ghostery, didn't help.

You are infected with Malware that has hijacked your browser. Get a free copy of malwarebytes and run it. What browser are you running? Need to get rid of all suspicious addins and plugins.

Re: vicious pop-up adds
yeah think you have a browser hijacker! in addition to malwarebytes theres another software called webcompanion which prevents your homepage etc from being changed.
i've had this happen before, its a very painful clean up job. i just decided to back up my data and do a clean install from scratch. ( this was after trawling through literally dozens of registry keys )

also check in all installed programs if you have some weird programs with names that dont make sense. Delete it if you see any.
Re: vicious pop-up adds
I am running Firefox on Linux. In my 25y of using it (Linux), it has never been infected so I am not sure what is the likelihood of this to happen. Not a zero for sure with all these java / flash extension but so far, the problem seems to be pretty much confined to this very forum and Firefox only. When I have some more time, I will take a closer look. At this point I switched to Chrome.

Re: vicious pop-up adds
never heard of a browser hijack on a linux system, can you reset firefox to defaults?

Re: vicious pop-up adds
I can just erase the user's .mozilla/ directory and all is brand new again. But then I won't learn that much from it. Mac OSX (which is the same kind of animal as Linux) has no problems with the browsers being hijacked.
