Lost international mail

Post by valentina_bar » Mon, 08 Feb 2016 11:41 pm

Hi, all, my international mail has been lost by SingaporePost/SpeedPost. They told me that they received my parcels, but could not deliver as somebody "rejected" them on my behalf. That person did not provide them with any ID whatsoever. Who to complain and get back this mail again?

I contacted the country from where I sent this mail, but they refer to Universal Postal Union Convention (and Singapore is part of it) and say that I have to complain here since they are the ones who failed to deliver. Appreciate your help. please PM me.

You may complain directly to Singpost. They will apologise for the inconvenience caused and unlikely do anything more. If what happened to your mail, happened just now, learn this rule: never send anything to Singapore that may be handled by singpost if the expected delivery time falls around CNY or Christmas. This rule is based on my unfortunate experience with the said carrier.

If you want to be very persistent and vindictive, after Sinpost does nothing, you may file a police report, as such "rejection" likely means that your signature was falsified, but I doubt it will fly any far and is worth the time. Just learn your lesson.

Thank you. The mail was sent before the CNY. I just learnt some time ago that it arrived before end of December. Is there really nothing to do? Is is really sad news as I do not want to loose my boxes.

Would contacting Ministry of Communication help? I think they are responsible for SingPost?

International mail service into Singapore absolutely SUCKS. We routinely have letters lost (people ask us why we didn't get letters or presents etc). If it's absolutely critical have it couriered in.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Yes. Is sucks. But I can not send a big parcel by courier -actually several big parcels. But what amazes me is how somebody thinks he has a right to just send my parcels back to the country of sender without asking me. Never head of it before. Just so frustrating.

This has happened to me before. If a parcel is unclaimed they will send it back after a set time (10 days?). To get around this use;

1. Use POP stations.
2. Get to know your local postmaster. I know mine and he knwos I'm not always in Singapore and holds my parcels for me a bit longer.

How do I get to know the local postmaster? I live around farrer road mrt. Do I call them to find out? I also want to fill the complain , where do I submit it? In which office? The point is that the mail was expensive and now the other side claims expenses for return, which is crazy. So I do not want to pay expenses for return +expenses for another delivery which might or might not happen.

So it arrived during another busy period. Same thing. Contacting Ministry of Communication will very unlikely help with anything.
Your boxes will be returned to the sender so they won't be lost. Just you lose money for the shipments.
Yes, that's the sad reality of Singapore. Many services are on such levels. The only thing that surprises me is that they allow this for the national carrier.
Your story is very similar to mine, except that I was more lucky and checked the tracking early enough to notice it was (claimed) attempted to be delivered (what I personally doubt was the case). Of course no delivery advice was left. I called speedpost, complained and arranged for redelivery. Nobody showed up. I arranged again. Nobody showed up again. I stopped wasting my time calling and just went to their distribution center in Eunos and collected it by myself. As this was not the first experience of mine of this sort with them I am avoiding since using any speedpost related services (EMS) like a plague. I'd rather pay more to DHL or Fedex or other int. guys. I think, even the plain singpost services are more reliable than speedpost.

SpeedPost is the brand of Sing Post. What a nightmare. Really shocking.

Yes, I am aware it but apparently many things may vary between the internal divisions.

Your nearest post office is either Ghim Moh or Tanglin. Check the Singpost website and see if you can locate the closest one on the map. Also the postman will tell you. If you have a delivery attempted docket it will show the post office as well.

Is Speedpost delivery handled by the local post offices (except the situation when instructed to dump the mail at the post office)?
