New Malaysia entry-tax system

Post by JR8 » Sun, 24 Jan 2016 9:20 pm

Thought this might be of interest to people who regularly cross the Causeway.

'Singapore vehicles need permit to enter Malaysia from May'

It's the Strait's Times so I can't quote more than that. The article is dated today and Google will retrieve it for anyone interested.

Drivers will need an RFID tag at RM10, and the charge is set at RM20 per entry. As the system commences and beds in, and the authorities gauge any impact I expect the system will get tweaked in future.

This has been news for a long time already, when it was supposed to be implemented firstly in time for National Day last year.......though to be fair it was first announced in July 2014.

It was pushed back to end of August, then to October, then the end of the year then June next year.

It's a "watch-this-space" development like most other things associated with our friends across the Causeway. Don't hold your breath but in the end if it does come to fruition you might just as easily see it cancelled a few months later. So long as all the hardware has been installed and paid for, friends of friends will be happy. You maybe didn't see that all MY immigration booths already were fully re-installed with card readers a few years back? After a couple of months they were covered in plastic bags and 6-months after that they were all removed......the installation holes are still there of course.

The infamous crooked bridge was almost fully paid for......and where is it?

In the 5+ yrs I was living up north this came up in discussion.......whereby I noted that the rest of Asia might have reason to be upset by being "tarred with the same brush" as it were, though they each have their own similar and different problems.

I wonder if this will apply to motorbikes as well?
