sundaymorningstaple wrote:oayaz01, do you have any idea of the number of applicants for jobs from foreign professionals are submitted each and every day in Singapore from around the world? When new ones come in they get put on the bottom of the stack unless they are from a real high flyer. @ 12K you are not a high flyer but a middle of the road type of PMET who is trying to take a job away from a local. They will give those a thorough going over, looking to reject because the 'locals' here have complained about subcontinental hiring managers and their practices here. It's been in the news far too often here and it is starting to make it difficult for 'average' PMETs" to get in now. I personally have to wonder about any manager who would 'quit' their job before the new position is well and truly secured. All contracts in Singapore are given with the understanding the it's not valid unless a suitable work visa is obtained. The IPA (In Principle Approval) has to be obtained from the MOM before you should give your notice to your current employer. There is a good reason why the IPA has a validity of 6 months (time to do your notice period unless you were escorted the door by your previous employer). One normally doesn't jump off a cliff unless they are reasonably sure that their parachute or other PPE are securely in place.

Assumptions are not something a good manager normally uses. But based on you being offered by a "huge" International Bank (something like a 'reputed' University at home?) and only being offered 12K sounds like you didn't impress them too much either. Good Luck and just hang in there. Anything worth having is worth waiting for.
Maybe you should know that there is something called a "completion bonus" and that's not included in the fixed salary so just 12k can go up by quite a bit, else I wouldn't have been thinking of relocating. No I am not a high flyer at all ( wish I was) but at 30, I don't think I am doing that bad either to be put right at the bottom of the pile.

Yes I shouldn't have resigned and I take that on the chin but again when your start up date is 14th March and you have a project deadline, you have to be proactive and that's all I been. And btw, you seem very stereotype thinking that a sub continental manager would hire me from across the globe.

He Belongs to the fast-talk/hard-sell Marcel and co ! Singapore is too slow for him.

And if it needed more than 3 days, he is willing to do the needful to get the vetting agencies to power up ahead - doing the needful - SMS, isnt' that what we call corruption in Singapore ? Or influencing ? Or is that perfectly legal in countries like Pakistan ?

No it's just called " move your bum a bit quicker", unfortunately some people don't do till they get a good kick on their backside probably the one's in Singapore! Now maybe that's perfectly legal in Pakistan!!

Anyways, Thanks for your support guys! You blokes have been more useless than I thought, clearly exceeding my expectations!

Maybe you should work around the globe so you know best practices before defending your "motherland" in future. I'm off from this site and Singapore.

Take care and Adios!!

Fyi, 15+ years ago, passes used to take 3 months to process.

Then MOM revamped the whole process and passes were approved or rejected in 3 to 5 days.

Then ... the folks at MOM found out how easily your brethren and nearby neighbours professionally manufactured degrees and experience letters, with zero flaws.

So we are back to square one.

So blame your countrymen, and neighbours in Asia before taking a swipe at how Singapore and some Singaporean employers suspiciously view those holding passports like yours.

Ps, what did you expect in this forum ? That somebody is gonna call MOM and demand answers?

Did you call MOM and tell them that they need a kick in their back ? Please do that first.

He wouldn't have gotten past the initial phone interview with me as his racism and defensive entitlement attitude would show up in the first 30 seconds and that would be it. I reckon if he does get his EP, He won't last too long here before they drive him or make him drive himself away.

Well, so assaulting and insulting civil servants is acceptable in Pakistan ? Nice to know that.

Does this kick in the backside include a nudge with a 47 or 56 ?

I was gonna refer him to ASS, TRS and the likes, but then, let him find out how accommodating Singapore is :D

how much time does it take? or does it really take 2 months?
I have same issue like you with my new EP application. But compare to you I stay in Singapore almost 9 years. Singapore checking everyone whatever your salary, education, race and anything else about you.

Is a bit disappointed that can't work in my previous company because my notice period is over, but also cannot start new work because "vetting agencies". So I get stuck here without income. Really hope it will take less than 2 month otherwise I will die from starvation in very expensive Singapore.

You can always go home for a while until you are notified of the outcome can't you? Surely you didn't burn any bridges to come over here.

Singapore is my home. Go to my passport country cost me at least 2k plus I have a contract for my rent here . In addition also my bills. So I must to pay whatever I stay in Singapore or not. It doesn't make sense.

What doesn't make sense is the fact that you don't give your notice and then go look for a job. Neither do you find a job and give notice to your current employer BEFORE you have the IPA in hand for the new job. In any case you will have to leave the country at the expiry of your SVP. The end of employment SVP is non-renewable. Depending where home is, you may have to go home. ICA often requires that depending on your home, otherwise a week's vacation might be in order in say Bali or the 'peens or BKK.

Hi everyone, I'm a post-graduate student from NUS having 3 years service obligation, My HR has applied for the E-pass on 4th March and the status is still pending(3rd week). I'm really worried as she is experiencing this issue for the first time. Usually it takes 4 days for her to get approved. Is it because of the company(outsourcing to clients) has more number of E-pass request(She has applied for 3 of my other friends on the same day) or MOM considers our application as special case and doing background verification. What are all the other available status, Is there any chance for my epass to get rejected.

Kindly give a reply,

Thanks
