Who ever told you Singapore was fair? See, that is exactly what I'm talking about. You aren't 200% sure of squat when it comes to Singapore. This is NOT the EU and it not the 30 day Market labour test in the UK. This is Singapore. The sooner you realize that, the better off you will be. The online assessment page is there to see if you qualify "to apply" but is not there to tell you that you will be successful in getting it. More than likely you will but when THEY are ready. They could care less about your bank. They can delay all they want, tactfully or not and you have absolutely no recourse so the best thing you can do is get the chip off your shoulder and quit worrying about fair dealing. When will it get approved? Today. Tomorrow. Next week. Never. How long is a piece of string. It will get approved when they feel like approving it. Why don't you march straight down to ICA in Kallang and raise hell. That's what I would recommend. Show 'em who's the boss! You should immediately apply for citizenship here. You've got the entitlement complex down pat. =D>

oayaz01 wrote:my thoughts to MOM, as no one tells what exactly is the matter, all they say is that it's confidential, kinda make me feel as I am an MI6 agent who is on a secret mission in North Korea.

The 3 working days is a standard policy for referencing for most big employers or institutes, they are very professional with such references as there are separate teams doing just referencing. I even called my uni to check if they had received any request and the answer was no. They got one from my pre employment checks team for my bank and that was responded same day so yes I am damn sure it doesn't takes that long provided they have asked for. If Mom is planning to ask for at end of April then yes, it will take 2 months from date of application as mentioned in their response.

About my schooling, that's not even mentioned on my CV so it's all under grad and professional finance qualification so I doubt if they will be checking my school for academic certificates. I am not looking for a grad job rather mid/manager level job as I have 9 years of banking experience in London.

If my employer withdraws the application then can they resubmit for a faster response or does that means goodbye Singapore? I'm just gutted as I thought mine was a straight forward case and I don't see any reasons for delays. Now I'm screwed as I have quit from my earlier job, made all the arrangements to move to Asia and all of a sudden I find myself in no man's land. I was conveyed that 7 days it takes to get an EP and no one mentioned to me that I will have even an iota of a problem to get one.
oayaz01 wrote:Thanks for the link but I don't have any complex issues but just that I am a logical guy so all I am saying here is that they brushing me with same brush where as they should have used some common sense in my case, it's either the guys doing the job can't read beyond the lines or they just don't want to..
oayaz01 wrote:I know what is a market labour test and so does my employer, that was already done then and documented in the form submitted to MOM. For your info, there is a 30 days market labour test in UK for hiring non EU and I have done that twice so I know what is it and only then you can apply.

I am 200% sure of what I know about the stuff I have done/provided and how long it takes to verify that, I am not implying that my surety goes beyond my knowledge. If they tactically delay stuff then good on them but you can't call that fair dealing!
QFP !!!!!! Make great bed time reading.

Yep, couldn't resist.

Unofficially, a lot of Pakistani HNWIs are domiciled in Singapore :D Some private banks have "Pakistani account advisors" .. !

You never know, Singapore may already have rolled out the Red Carpet (as he himself admitted indirectly .. ) =P~ :P

Bottom line from all that I've read so far, Singapore is meant for people who likes driving on the slower lane, think they have never been on a ride which goes via the fast lane and as such guys like you don't get what opportunity cost and common sense means.

Anyways who cares now, but only If I had known this in advance I would never have wasted my time on moving to Singapore.

P.S - Every tom, dick and sunday apple can get a work permit in Singapore, try getting one in UK or US and then you'd know the importance of rolling a red carpet:P

And btw, I didn't know that Credit Suisse, JP Morgan, UBS, Standard Chartered are all headquartered in Karachi and hence have their unofficial presence in Singapore, thanks for adding to my knowledge:) - you seem to be the only smart cookie in Singapore!

Fast lane ? slow lane ? well, so your not starting with in 3 days cost how many million $ of loss for who ?

If you were so important, your employer should have applied for your pass ahead of time, and known that occasionally applicants can get vetted in detail - and I am sure you are not the only foreigner in your new work place.

Ever heard of this word called "managing your own expectations" ? :)

It's still not too late. Tell your bosses that you don't want to work in racist, discriminating, and insulting Singapore :)

And again you missed the point- the question was that even if they chose the vetting, what are they doing that's taking them 2 months as it can't be educational screening which can take that long?

And re your comment about Filipino maids, why that should matter where the hell you come from if are a genuine case, simple?

Looks like you are just busy here on defending the authorities than using sense and looking at what's written, I hope you ain't on a specific payroll!:)

No mate, you are missing the point, seriously.

Why can't they take 2 months ? Explain to me Why not ? Is it some international standard that Pakistanis must be vetted within 3 days ? :P

I quoted it in passing, since somewhere else you mentioned "white folks .. "

Seriously, defending the authorities ? Singapore government doesn't need paid defenders.

What me and SMS were trying to tell you is the reality of Singapore - and how things work here. Or more like telling you that this is Singapore, take it or leave it.

If telling you that you are smoking something strong to insist Singapore is inefficient, is seen as defending the authorities, well, good for you.

Who knows, MOM folks may actually be checking your birth certificate - it wasn't a fake one right ? Don't say nobody should check Birth Certificates, and TIA mate, TIA (This is ASIA).

So, wait, and wait - or, as I said, instead of throwing tantrum, just tell your boss to withdraw the application - so you can stop cursing Singapore.

They can take 2 years if they want to but then they should say upfront as why they doing, what exactly is the risk etc and I'll be more than happy to keep my gob shut. As they do everyone else's within 7 working days so guess I've a right to be gutted bcz I'm given this special privilege.

I didn't use the word white folks rather Brits and that's bcz I have mates who have moved to Singapore for work and don't think they ever got vetted or knows of anyone who did!

I have no clue as to why one would be checking my birth certificate coz neither am I an asylum seeker and nor a minor ( under 18) so why would age will make any difference to the employment pass provided I have a job offer? Unless that's how they justify their jobs:)

Well your final answer is to ask me to cancel my application, as I said don't you worry now as I've understood that how slow and illogical things are at times in Asia even though it's hard to grasp why ( though I thought Singapore would be different), I'm now not putting all my eggs in the same basket anymore.

oayaz01, do you have any idea of the number of applicants for jobs from foreign professionals are submitted each and every day in Singapore from around the world? When new ones come in they get put on the bottom of the stack unless they are from a real high flyer. @ 12K you are not a high flyer but a middle of the road type of PMET who is trying to take a job away from a local. They will give those a thorough going over, looking to reject because the 'locals' here have complained about subcontinental hiring managers and their practices here. It's been in the news far too often here and it is starting to make it difficult for 'average' PMETs" to get in now. I personally have to wonder about any manager who would 'quit' their job before the new position is well and truly secured. All contracts in Singapore are given with the understanding the it's not valid unless a suitable work visa is obtained. The IPA (In Principle Approval) has to be obtained from the MOM before you should give your notice to your current employer. There is a good reason why the IPA has a validity of 6 months (time to do your notice period unless you were escorted the door by your previous employer). One normally doesn't jump off a cliff unless they are reasonably sure that their parachute or other PPE are securely in place.

Assumptions are not something a good manager normally uses. But based on you being offered by a "huge" International Bank (something like a 'reputed' University at home?) and only being offered 12K sounds like you didn't impress them too much either. Good Luck and just hang in there. Anything worth having is worth waiting for.

For a highly paid banker, if you used quotes, it would have made more sense. Quotes - [ quote ] and end with [ / quote ] (minus the spaces within the square brackets. .. )

Now it looks like you are just parroting what I wrote, and have to fish my replies 'somewhere there .. ' (above copy is after my inserting the quotes ..

PS, Singapore is in Asia, and Pakistan too is in Asia - or did you miss geography lessons in School ? Or well, did you complete your high school ?
