Getting a job by coming to Singapore in Visit Visa

Post by anu.jay91 » Thu, 21 Jan 2016 1:30 am

Hi all,

I a thinking of taking a Visit Visa to Singapore for finding a job there. I am graduate Civil Engineer with more than 2 years of experience in high rise building construction, quantity survey, estimation etc. What are the chances of getting a job if i come on a visit visa for an Indian? I really wanted to make a career in Singapore. Kindly reply if someone knows about this.

Thanks and Regards

Seriously? Your chances are about zero. You've got a lot of homework to do. You need to identify those companies in Singapore that might be in need of your skills, and make contact with them before you ever arrive. Pounding the pavement while on a SVP will get you nowhere.

Use LinkedIn, Singapore job banks, other sources to try and identify who might hire you. Arrange for email/phone interview. Demonstrate what skills you have that make you better than a local with similar education and experience... then come over and apply.

Not trying to be bleak... just offering that with 2 years experience, you'll be hard pressed to attract interviews, let alone offers.

Thanks for the prompt reply brother. I do apply on sites like jobstreet, expatjobs etc. I had seen lot of ads for "Quantity Surveyor" and most of them are entry level jobs, that why i thought of getting a visit visa. I will definitely do what you have said. Whats the minimum experience needed for an expat??

The jobsites are useless. Use them only to identify companies, then explore individual companies... use LinkedIn to find managers...

As for your question... what's the minimum experience? How long is a piece of string. Strong anti foreigner sentiment in Singapore right now... Indians in even worse place... what commends you to be a better choice than a local?

Do you have any previous job experience? What was the previous company you worked in?

More specifically, I was asking for the company name. "Quantity survey" can be interpreted very widely.
