Dear Forum Experts,
Need your help and guidance!!!
I've been offered a hiring consultant position that is a commissioned role - by an organization which does not have a local office in Singapore - they have physical office in HK. I'm on a DP. My spouse is on an EP. I'll be expected to work from home mostly except visiting the clients or meeting the potential candidates. I've been looking for a job ever since and after 1 yr+ something came my way so this looks like do or die.
At this time I'm not sure of what type of work pass/permit will be applicable to me or if the company offering the job will apply for a certain pass/permit.
Am I eligible for LOC? Or if I have to register a business? Please guide and advise as I'm very confused and I'm not very familiar with SG laws/MOM requirements.
Regards,
TechGuy320

Job offer from overseas firm
Re: Job offer from overseas firm
The HK company could apply an EP for you using the sponsorship scheme. However, they would need a local company for the paperwork purposes.
I did it a couple of years ago, in my case we were the principal, and we used our local distributor to be the sponsor for my EP application.
Cheers

To work on an EP or LOC means that you must work for a company that is a legal entity in Singapore. The HK company must create a local entity, usually a pte ltd, then apply for an EP for you in order that you can legally work. You note that it is a commissioned role... EP's require a minimum salary... will the company be willing to state that you will make this much money... after asking if they will be willing to incorporate a Singapore entity in order to hire you.thetechguy wrote:Dear Forum Experts,

Your only other choice is to create your own company or business. If you are going the LOC route, my sense from the posts on this forum is that you will want to register a sole proprietorship, then ask for a LOC based upon the contracts you will receive from the HK company.
Otherwise, you form your own pte ltd in Singapore, using a rented nominee director, then apply for your own EP, which also permits you to become director. This is more complicated and has pitfalls. If you search for threads that I have posted in, you'll find a lot of feedback from those who have been successful and those who have failed, both in EP and in LOC.

These two threads have the responses of a number of people who formed a SP and applied for LOC. Some were successful, some not, so there are lessons to be learned in the approach.thetechguy wrote:Thank you very much Strong Eagle!
