Hi all,
My wife, 2 year old son and I are relocating for work at the end of January and are finding difficulty in deciding on an area to rent an apartment. My work is in Tampines right next to the MRT station. My partner isn't planning on working at this stage.
I viewed Bedok Residences when I was there in December and found the properties too small... less than 900 sq ft. I viewed another one in Simie (Tropical Springs) - nice, however my wife is keen on a balcony and this property didnt have one and I wasn't overly keen on the area...
Does anyone have any information on Pasir Ris? We live in a quiet leafy area of Brisbane and enjoy spending times in parks, near beach, etc. and this looks like a similar place. We are also looking at Tanah Merah or the East Coast area, however East Coast's distance from an MRT is an issue for me working at Tampines...
Budget is around $3.3k to $4k.
Any information (related or unrelated) would be greatly appreciated! Would also love to begin introductions to families in the East Coast area!
Thanks
Brislew

Re: Location location advise
Thanks... That does help lay things out...
Priorities:
- your budget (approx range) - $3.3k-$4k
- your workplace/s (don't name names, just approx neighbourhood) Tampines
- the size and/or type of property that you are seeking (#bedrooms, on-site facilities etc) preferably 3 bedrooms, would consider 2 bed + study, swimming pool, balcony, over 1200 sq ft
- will you have a car here? No
- proximity to transport required. MRT-subway/buses/the airport/Malay border post (if so, which one). Close to an MRT station (within 400-500metres)
- will you have any accompanying children needing to attend school? If so, age/s? A son aged 2... Won't start school for 2-3 more years, so not overly important at present
- are you looking at private (international/fee-paying, or local schools?) an International School in 2019
- will your employer being funding any fees; or will you, 'out of pocket'? Part funded, out of pocket by half
- is remaining within a national curriculum important; if so what nationality are you? Australian curriculum is preferred
- have you identified any such schools yet? Australian school, however would consider other International Schools
Nice to have:
- will you need to be able to say walk to the local shops, a library, your doctor, a market, and so on? Walk to local shops, swimming pool in condo, reasonably close to a park would be great also!
- access to any specific sport, social, and recreation facilities? Not so important
- are you considering bringing any pets. If so what kind, and will they require outdoor access and/or exercise?
- are you considering bringing any parents/in-laws etc? Do they have specific needs (for example difficulty climbing stairs?) no
Your current home and commute:
- are you already a city dweller? i.e. Are you used to city-centre hustle and bustle, or would you hope for a bit more peace and quiet? But more piece and quiet. We live in a leafy suburb in Australia within 30 minute drive of a city centre. We enjoy outdoors, parks, etc. and would still like to be 30-40 mins commute into the city (obviously via public transport) on weekends, etc.
- what is the size and type (apartment, house+garden etc) of your current home? 3 bedroom house, large plot
- what are any current commute times like? 20-30 mutes drive
I hoped this helps

Re: Location location advise
Hi @brislew, I noticed that you didn't get an answer here last month. Have you already relocated and found an apartment, or still looking?
