An interesting article. It all seems so harmless until "That year, an office worker died in a fire at 1 Illinois Center, a vanity address on East Wacker Drive, after emergency responders failed to find the burning building."

Vanity Address
Re: Vanity Address
Good they don't allow (?) this* in Singapore as surely there would be many willing to pay for it and charge more to the tenants.earthfriendly wrote:An interesting article. We lived in a condo situated just at the bottom of Holland Hill. The condo was facing Queensway and had the Queensway address. I found some funny discussions on local property buyer fora that this condo is a joke and not worth to buy because it is not really in the Holland area.
*) Instead, the developers put the "prestigious" component inside the condo name.

Like so:

Except you cannot truncate De onto a consonant in this way (only vowels) so it just looks completely absurd. I've pondered whether I could live in a place with such a silly name and I really don't think I could do it

Re: Vanity Address
interestingly, the famous 1 Wilshire Building is actually not 'exactly' in Wilshire Boulevard
It is facing the Wilshire Boulevard.
