From somebody who's been down that highway several times, I'd have to agree with JR8. Train Wreck. Big Time.

So anyone know how severe the drink driving is to the approval of the LTVP?

When was it, what country, how far 'over' were they*? I'm no SME but I think those might be the basics to be considered.

* I'd always considered being 'over the limit' as black and white, but for example I know in the US how far over someone is can make the difference between the crime being categorised and prosecuted as as a 'misdemeanour', vs a 'felony'.

OP, only ICA would know and what they think would likely also depend on how drunk she was and if this is the only warning flag in her immigration portfolio. Surely it's not a positive thing to have in ones record, especially if it happened on a short term visit pass. For me would be like showing disrespect to the host right from the start.

Is criminal detention the same as jail term? Only for one month.

I believe is not. I don't know what you're trying to figure out, but typically what matters is whether you have been convicted in the court for a criminal offence. You could be detained and clear from the charges. I believe you can also serve jail term for non-criminal offences (e.g. failure to pay court ordered summons).

I haven't been in the prison, but having done my little bit with some ex-residents, Singapore prison system is simple.

Those remanded for White collar crimes or criminal crimes are treated pretty much same. i.e. subject to no special privileges, unlike other countries where 'lesser' crimes entail prison which is like a weekend boarding house.

All have to get their head shaved (that's what I remember from males - not sure of the females), spend most of the day locked up, and only limited time to exercise and get some sunlight.

Only replying to the thread title, not any of the subsequent posts:

Drink driving may affect approval of LTVP, but from my personal experience, you may still be granted LTVP after being caught drink driving.
IF you are applying, DO include your SG drink driving offense:
in my application, as I recall there is a portion which asks if you have been convicted of a crime and I stated NO. Upon my brief interview, the ICA agent asked me if had any issues with the law 2 years prior and I immediately knew to what she was referring. She asked me to amend my answer on the spot, and then I was approved.

more details (the boring yet slightly relevant details): I am American (I voted for Trump 3 times!), and in the US, there is a stark difference between a felony and a misdemeanor. parking ticket, speeding = misdemeanor (no affect on job applications or government filings); serious crimes are felonies. On applications and government documents, the question posed is if you have been convicted of a FELONY. Drunk driving, in most cased, is a misdemeanor in the US and not relevant in background checks.

Voting for Trump three times is definitely a felony.

An offense like this will probably not prevent an LTVP - far more important are her race/age, whether you can support her and whether the ICA judges her to be a potential future citizen or mother of citizens.
