Review of 2015 in Singapore

Post by sgstrait » Fri, 18 Dec 2015 3:09 pm

Well, as the year draws to a close and I head to Changi for Crimbo holidays, it strikes me that it's been a very eventful year for the world, and Singapore has had its fair share of the limelight.

Tell us your thoughts on what have been the key events for Singapore this year. I'll start the ball rolling - the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Singapore's 50th anniversary.

That's been every year since I came here in 1982. ;-)

The year when Fed finally raised rates. My portfolio has been down for the year. I got into a terrible job and now quitting it after 6 months. Could well be my last full year in Singapore. Not a good year.

Bugger hope that you're not in much debt. Are you on an EP?

No debt. I have secured my retirement already by working here for the last 6.5 years. Now I have gotten to the stage where money doesn't matter much to me and staying in SG means hanging on jobs that I don't like. Yupp I am on EP. I would rather go back to India, get a relaxed job or look for the next destination to explore.

I managed to hang onto my job in an incredibly bad year in OnG.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

PNGMK, as did my daughter who also survived a transfer back to the Singapore office of Maersk Drilling from Angola in the later stages of her pregnancy as did her husband who works for Halliburton Sg. The Jury is still out on my Nephew-in-Law with Sperry Sun in NZ after being off-loaded by Halliburton.

I de-camped SG for the 3rd and likely final time. Still haven't quite made it back 'ome yet, but we're headed in the right direction :) I was going to say there isn't much I miss (mother-in-laws cooking excepted), but then it's just started snowing, and I'm having a 'why oh why' interlude...

I scent an internal contradiction. As I don't think you can arrive at a point of 'money not mattering' unless you have arrived there via a life, not obsessed with money as such, but obsessed with preparation, against the unknown. And I do not believe there is an off-switch.

I am afraid it was personal. I just had this thought yesterday or a day before, if I ever see again any post of WD40 that is not going to be about money or at least won't mention money, price etc.

(Actually, I think there were some recently in the job changing thread)
