Plagiarising Journos.

Post by curiousgeorge » Wed, 09 Dec 2015 10:21 pm

I think I am right to accuse Lynette Tan from get.com of plagiarising these boards for her articles.

Take a look here: https://get.com/sg/blog/living-boat-expensive-or-cheap/
Compare and contrast with this post: http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/viewto ... 56#p725330

Note specifically that I state you might get a launch for $50k. The same sum Ms Tan uses in her article. I was talking about *any* boat and she is talking about a boat fit to live on...and I can assure you ain't gonna find a liveable boat for $50k around these parts.

Next, I mention that up to a 35ft boat would be around $490 for wet berth fees. Well this is the published rate at RSYC - the marinas out of town are going to be less (Raffles, Punggol) and the ones on/near Sentosa a lot more. Seems like she just lifted my figures.

I'm just peeved it all. Rant over.

Archive her article before it gets taken down.

Then post on reddit? :P

It's not a plagiarism in any legal sense - this would be beyond any doubts if she included clear duplicates from your articles, but I am not sure if her article is even based on yours. 2 coincidental numbers with one being a published rate doesn't seem that much IMHO. For me, these are two very different articles with yours being much more elaborative and insightful. There is nothing original in the subject so also hard to talk about plagiarism of the ideas. Sorry if I missed something, just woke up and still sleeping.

Not nearly as bad as some local scumbag real estate agent who literally lifted my links page in my signature (HTML and all) and only changed the background/text colours and heading and inserted it in her website absolutely verbatim. I scared the crap out of her though and she took it down pretty quick. That was about 4 years ago I believe.
