Malaysia is looking for the owner of three Boeing 747-200F that have been left on its tarmac. The airport had put an advertisement in a local newspaper after failing to trace the owner.

It is registered TF, Air Atlanta Icelandic's planes, leased to MH, and the legal owners are out of business.

The paper notice is a formality before auctioning or scrapping them, In case the finance companies file any objections.

I am sure they are beyond economic recovery.

Clearly it was not always the case (being beyond economic recovery) so the question is how long they are already there, on the tarmac?

Roughly a year, apparently.

BONUS: There's also a quiz in there-->Which abandoned 747 are you?

I'm apparently:

747-200F has gone out of fashion, With the glut of other newer models in the resale market.

Economic recovery = to get it to full flying status.

Especially if a D check is due, it will be cheaper to part it out than get it to flying status.

As mentioned, the owners, who were once big in cargo and Hajj charters, are out of business.

And as it was on charter to MH, it wasn't like MH suddenly discovered the planes.

Lot of pun in the news, especially for those who don't know about The Industry ? Yep.

Really MH folks are such morons to not know they had few planes lying around ? Nope.

When the planes landed there apparently they didn't need to be made into the full flying status. Out of fashion or not, some cheap buyers surely would be interested. Now, after one year, with all the fees to be paid, it's a different story.

I may add a slight correction, "they were flying for MasKargo... till the last flight when AAI went belly up"

If you look up airline databases, MASKargo had quite a few TF registered planes.

If one had a decent plot of land and could find a way to transport one, it would make an awesome home with a little refurbishment.
