Holy Crap! - $5,912 COE for Motorcycles

Post by Strong Eagle » Fri, 13 Nov 2015 7:30 pm

As of the first November, 2015, bidding exercise.

People think the rise in automobile COE's is insane...this is true insanity. When I left Singapore in 2013, COE's for motorbikes were about $1,900, up from the $650 in 2004 when I first arrived in 2004. Percentage wise, this is a far larger rise than any other COE, and terminally stupid for a couple or reasons.

a) This COE level is far above the actual purchase price of a great number of bikes.
b) Bikes as transportation leave the smallest footprint in terms of road use, petrol, parking... you name it. They should be encouraged.

It was already at 6k5 level earlier this year. I am surprised to see it dropped below 6k.

Now if they do again what they did in 2015 and 2014 around February (further reduce quota) COE will surely cross 7-8k.

Agreed, but do you know anywhere that actively encourages motorcycle use? It seems to me bikes are always the poor cousin to cars.

MY view is that the LTA stole some bike COE quota back to try to redress the car COE crisis. (On their bullshit 2:1 ratio... what crock - I can fit 3 bikes into the space of a car and do it at 160KPH) plus I can fit at least 5 into the same space at a traffic light stop). I hate the LTA.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.

how much will the difference in prices be for say a <200cc generic scooter?
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

The are no sub-categories for the motorbikes. One COE only. Over 6k5 again at this moment.
