Ending of the One Child Policy in China

Post by bgd » Thu, 05 Nov 2015 11:26 am

Sounds like too little too late.

They eased it recently and that didn't result in the expected population growth. Now they are scrapping it altogether to further boost numbers.

Talking to my Chinese colleagues, not one of them is intending to have more children as a result of this. They blame the cost of bringing up children in China, one they can cope with, any more is too much of a financial strain.

Does seem like it is going to take some time for the effects of this attempt at human engineering to work through. Still some way to catch Singapore's poor reproduction rate, though.

Good news for milk powder producers (NZ), demand is expected to increase, but not so good for condom manufacturers, their share prices have fallen. :D
