Advice needed for LTVP

Post by SG_noob » Tue, 27 Oct 2015 5:55 pm

Hi all, it's my first time posting here :)
I've read a few posts on the forum, but still feels a bit noob hence the username

****EDIT: removed irrelevant info****

Goal:
- bring my wife here and get her LTVP so she can stay

Applicant: (my wife)
- 25-yr-old PRC
- master degree in Chinese
- 1yr work exp
- visited SG twice, each abt 10 days (a few yrs in-between)

Sponsor: (me)
- 25-yr-old Chinese SPR
- bachelor degree in computing from NUS
- 2yr+ work exp in IT
- living in SG since Dec 2008

Problems:
- sponsor became PR only recently
- married only recently (in China)
- low salary ($3.5K)
- 1yr tax record
- CPF contribution just starting

Questions:
- am I even eligible to be sponsor before having 3yr tax record + 12months CPF?
- better job w/ higher salary likely to improve chances?

Any advice is welcome

I think I missed 1 more problem:
- we only lived together during summer/winter breaks in university; and then during paid leaves after I started working

A bit hard to convince ICA we're stable and being serious ](*,)

Singapore PR are eligible to apply LTVP for their's spouse. As long you have proper documents like marriage certificate and passport.

You are correct rgunathan, they are 'eligible to apply' but that is not a guarantee..........that they will get an LTVP. In the OP's case, in the short term, I think he may well have some problems which he is already well aware of. I really don't have any alternatives and I agree with his last statement "A bit hard to convince ICA....."

Thanks to rgunathan and SMS :)

I intend to apply anyway and then just wait.
I'll come back here to update whether ICA approves; or how long/how many times it took until ICA says OK.
Thanks again.

I am beginning to think, with a lot of the results we are starting to see in the past three months, that the powers that be are looking a bit more lenient than before. I wonder if that is a direct result of the very positive results in the last GE. In any case, it's good to hear. Yep, sounds like a nice Christmas prezzie! ;-)

Hi SG_Noob,

Things to take note upon renewal of your spouse LTVP.

I am a SC who wanted to renew LTVP for my spouse. When apply for LTVP, u access E-VP to apply when upon expiry for renewal , the link of E-VP doesn't work and there will be system error. we tries several times and we called ICA during 28 Nov15. ICA ask us to go down on 1st Dec 2015 which has less than 10 days of renewal period and when we go down to ICA, the officer ask us to go back to apply online through E-VPAA instead but they have to cancel the LTVP before we can re-apply as renewal is not applicable as it had just expired for 1day. Then again, when we called ICA hotline for advice, their advice was totally wrong and we make a wasted trip down and resulted the LTVP to have less than 10 days for renewal.

At that time my spouse who are holding LTVP- LOC cannot immediately cancelled as this will affected her work so we had let the LTVP run down to the last day then we cancelled on the 9th Dec and reapply on the 10th Dec 2015. The official had told us that they will expedite the issues but 3 weeks had passed and no results yet.... Disappointed by the ICA official ways of handling things which no status and exact processing time was given. I had gone down the 3rd time regarding this issues as my wife may loss her job for this reason as her employer might use this reason and not continue employ her as she was currently pregnant and going on maternity leaves soon. And due to the processing Long timeframe, we might loss all our benefits.

Please do renew your Spouse LTVP 3 months before hand...
