The biggest factor is that the average, if not all, the drivers in Singapore know SFA about their cars. therefore have no idea about what is under the bonnet and what looks out of place or worn, etc. This has been bred out of them progressively since the advent of HDB flats where you don't have any room for working on a car. That and the idea that getting ones hands dirty is a state of being that all Singaporeans need to shy away from. Additionally, High powered amplifiers and whatnot being installed on/in the vehicles may or may not have been shoddily done and not properly insulated, thus resulting in fires.
