Rent options for single male finance professional

Post by bellebear » Mon, 28 Sep 2015 4:46 pm

Dear All,

I will be moving to Singapore from China next month and would very much seek your advise for rent options.

Priorities:
- Budget: S2,000 to 2,300
- Work place: near Promenade MRT
- Looking for one bedroom condo / apartment ideally with gym and swimming pool
- will you have a car here: no car
- proximity to transport required: within 10 min walk near closed MRT is acceptable. Need to be within 30 min to company
- single: no children or partner. no pets

Many thanks in advance for your kind assistance!

With my limited knowledge of one-bedroom options, your budget is too little from what I know. There are not many single bedroom condos in Singapore so your options are limited. My friend lives in a a pigeon-hole single bedder at Mt Emily Road (near Little India) for SGD3000 per month without including utilities.

Honestly, rental market is hitting low at the moment but that doesn't mean the same will happen for single-bedder places (because they are limited). You either do flat share for a nice condo for just SGD1500 (master bedroom), or even less, in most areas. Or rent a cheap (read: not luxurious) HDB by yourself in far-flung area for own privacy but no bling.

You can check the property site in this forum for more info. They are our expat forum site sponsors ;-)

I have been searching properties in ., and it seems there are available rooms within my budget and may fit my criteria, but I am just sure about the location and neighborhood, thus need your inputs. Thanks

If you have already narrowed down your options, perhaps you can tell us which neighbourhood so that we can answer specifically to that.

For the moment, I don's know too well about the districts / good locations in Singapore, thus maybe a bit blind-sided in terms of choosing locations... Your help is needed, like what is the good area for my budget, etc.

:)

A good area for your *budget* and travelling time would be Geylang, but be aware that it's traditionally known as the "red light" district of Singapore.

Example condos there: Centra Suites/Studio/Heights, Guillemard Edge, Royce Residences, Idyllic Suites, Ness, Le Regal. Be aware though that most of these are small (<500 sqft) and some might be classified as "studios" rather than "1 bedroom".

You could also consider City Loft in Kallang or Parc Elegance in Bedok.

Looks like we have communication breakdown here.

If you looked around and saw that there are condo units that fit your requirements within your budget (despite of me/us saying otherwise), you should tell us which one and we can help you by telling you if the area is good/convenient or not.

One more time here:
1. Your budget is too low to rent a condo with all the facilities by yourself within 10+30 minutes of commute to Promenade.
2. Your option is to share a condo with other working professionals (take a master bedroom or just a common room) within 10+30 minutes of commute to Promenade. Or to rent a small HDB by yourself but you won't have the facilities and you have to travel farther (if you really want to have the whole unit for yourself that badly).

I'm not familiar with East side so on the west, I'm thinking about corners of Clementi (Clementi Avenue 4 or such - a friend of mine rented a dingy two-bedder HDB by himself over there for SGD2200 in 2014). That's about 15-minutes walk to Clementi station (East West Line), followed by 30-minute train to Bugis station and switching to Downtown Line for 10-minute train to Promenade station.

Or share a flat and get a room in a nice condo around Marina Parade, Telok Belangah, Holland Village or Dakota and get 30-minute bus ride door to door, or a combination of walk+bus or walk+train or train+bus for 30 minutes. And all these names are picked from the clouds because I have no more information of what you define as "good/nice" neighbourhood.

Hi

I was staying at Katong condo with 1 bed room(just left from Singapore). Near katong shopping centre n 112 mall, Price is 21-22K.
East is v good place for stay, nice environment, relaxing n near east coast park.
You dont need to worry neighborhood, many expats staying nearby are all nice.
But just becareful about landlord.

Like my experience, I like my place n flat a lot at 91marshall, nice view at level 4, just the last handover make me mad when dealing with unreasonable landlord who deduct my deposit to replace some electric appliants with normal usage scatches...

Gd luck to you

You can try Bliss Residences near Kembangan MRT, or Bartley Residences (TOP soon) at Bartley MRT. They may fit your requirement.

All things equal, condos near MRT will be priced higher. If you don't mind walking a longer distance or taking bus, can try condos at Balistier, Katong and East Coast.

Bargain hard. Check government URA website to get a feel of past transacted price. Good luck.

Condo at Lorong 30 onwards is fine. Opposite my condo the studio is renting about 2k -2.3k per month. Train ride from Dakota to Prominate is 20 minutes. You may check it out too.
