Good Time To Buy Volkswagen Stock?
VW stock has dropped at least 20 percent since it was announced that VW installed cheater emissions software on 11 million of their diesel vehicles worldwide.
When plugged into an emissions tester, the software depowers the engine so that it meets emission standards, and when uplugged returns to normal power mode where the engine emits as much as 40 times the allowable standard.
VW isn't going to go away. How long before the stock rebounds?

I was just saying this today. Buy buy buy. Look at how much money people made of BP stock by buying immediately after the Deepwater Horizon spill.

And dumping your diesel car. They are already under threat in Europe and this won't help.

Down 40 percent today in USA markets... might be time.
Some say, "will never recover"... said the same thing about GM... big company will come back... only question is, "how long?"

Re: Good Time To Buy Volkswagen Stock?
My opinion is that I think it still has further room to go down - the news broke out fairly recently and they are going through court proceedings, fines, CEO resigned, etc - typically the price may go down for over a certain period of time (3 to 6 months maybe - dont know).
I am cautiously optimistic it may go down to $91 but I may start buying earlier from Jan onwards in monthly batches - I invest for 5 to 10 years so able to wait it out to recover.

All markets are in correction phase and investors are nursing wounds from the losses in their portfolio. In the midst of all this why would anyone want to catch a falling knife like VW.

Because the large drop in VW stock is proof that market decisions are not rational. Buy and hold investors will ride this through. Those that lost money created the issue themselves by selling. VW is large enough that it will weather this storm. How long it will be is open to debate.
Re: Good Time To Buy Volkswagen Stock?
VW is like a German economy itself. No way anything bad may happen to it over longer term. I agree it's a sure bet and I am very surprise the stock was hit that bad. I guess many people don't realise what sort of brand it is.
Re: Good Time To Buy Volkswagen Stock?
You never know how deep it will fall and then how much it will recover. What if it falls 90% and then jumps up 100% from the bottom. Only if you catch that bottom will you double your money, if you buy it too soon, you may never recover your money. It's not irrational why prices fall. There is a reason why people sell at such losses.

The people who got out first did fine. Those that continued to sell at lower and lower prices did so not because VW is going kaput but because the price continued to drop. They, along with others, contributed to the fall by their behaviors.Wd40 wrote:It's not irrational why prices fall. There is a reason why people sell at such losses.
And don't forget, someone bought at that price. They clearly think the sellers were making a mistake.

There's a joke floating around in light of the recent events.
A Volkswagen vehicle is as polluting as 10 autos that's they call it Das ( word for 10 in Hindi) Auto.

To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

Yeah, I read it too. Just for the benefit of non Indians; Auto is the short for Auto Rickshaw in India. It emits smoke like crazy.

Auto rickshaw = motorised three wheeler.Wd40 wrote:Yeah, I read it too. Just for the benefit of non Indians; Auto is the short for Auto Rickshaw in India. It emits smoke like crazy.

In reality the newer 4 stroke versions are less polluting than the 2 stroke predecessors
