Anyone live in Silversea?

Post by f13ldy » Mon, 21 Sep 2015 10:19 am

Having viewed this condo on Saturday it is my preferred option, however the noise from ECP appeared to be fairly loud. The unit we viewed was on the 6th floor, are the higher level units quieter? I came from rural England so maybe just not used to it...

Anyone living there currently who can give me some insight on what it's like to live there?

Thanks

James

Traffic noise is invasive and effects people differently. It's pretty hard to find quiet in Sg, but overlooking the ECP definitely is up with the noisier options. If you think it will be a problem look elsewhere.

Not that condo but had friends who lived nearby. The ECP is noisy, all the time. They got used to it but never enjoyed it, since moved. Think they were on the 13th floor.

Can no longer remember the details but an engineer once explained that traffic noise is louder at different heights. Certain low floors were desirable and then some higher ones. He has just moved out of a level 2 unit which he bought on this principal. So it would be worthwhile looking at different floors, the sound level may vary, but it will always be there.

My own humble opinion: if traffic noise bothers you, then anywhere near a busy road or expressway is going to be unbearable - unless your apartment happens to have double glazing.

I moved from an apartment in the middle of very busy Bencoolen Street where I didn't hear any external noise due to double glazing to an apartment next to Telok Blangah Road which had no double glazing. I was in that apartment for 2 years and I never had a proper night's sleep due to road noise.

Thanks guys, I think the issue could be I'm just not used it to although I did view the Amber Residences about 500metres behind it and the noise didn't jump out at me like it did at Silversea (but it didn't have that view!)

Seems it'll be a common problem and I'll just to have accept a compromise.

If it is OK for me to ask a few questions here about sound proofing?

Just googled the term "double glaze". Other than having double panes for windows to insulate the noise, is there any other things to look for in the construction of the walls (aside from adding an additional layer sound proofing yourself)? Concrete walls get echoey. What about flooring? Will hardwood floor (or wood laminate) work in SG environment and help in noise reduction?

You could look up rock wool for non load bearing walls.

Did you take a look at Cote D'Azur, same view and nearer to shopping? There are a couple of other nice condominiums nearby.

My advice is not to consider The Seaview. This is one of those condominiums with many defects.
