You will fit in well, as long as you have a bit of thick skin to accept the local stereotyping of Sub Cons (and some are very close to the truth ...) And learn a bit of singlish and avoid getting scolded by the local coffee/tea uncle ..kapilankar wrote: The notion of Singapore as a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural hodgepodge felt so comforting; for all practical purposes I can very comfortably live there even if I moved in with only a backpack full of material. Or am I mistaken and seeing this with my rose-tinted glasses?
Or you can move into a Sub con enclave and feel very much at home..

The stickies...
Nope. I've been navigating around for the last half hr. I see a lot of the 'stickies' word but I doubt I reached the actual stickie site/thread/post.
I would pay 50 cents to easily navigate the site. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

@kapil - adaptor spelling blame it on my phone
You are from Mumbai, used to crowds travelling long distances. Singapore is an island not that big of a place, the places you picked are well good if you want to live close to your work place, then think about what else you want to do apart from work.
Exercise? A bit of cricket badminton swimming gym whatever.
Find a place which is convenient to all this.
Maybe you'll want to have a night out in the middle of the city and you'll soon discover how much it costs for a taxi ride from the city center back home, factor that in, plus taxi rides to and fro from the airport from the west to the east is expensive.
Room rentals are easy in Singapore as opposed to getting a whole house for yourself, maybe you can find other mumbaikars to shack up.
Idk I've been here 3 years now I'm sort of at the point where I'm oblivious to everything around me, there are good and bad things about Singapore just like any other country im sure you'll find your way around.

Going by how you think, this would be me trying to promote my app or business, and you blocking me.
Yawn... remember u told me if I wanted, I could put a link that leads to my site below my signature?
Did I even do that?
What is with you and money?

If you want me to publish the entire contents of those PM's I'll gladly do so. Yes, I told you that you could do that, but at the same time I told you that it could only be a passive link and you could not refer to it in the body of the posted messages AT ALL. Now you are trying to tiptoe around it again. I've just about had my fill. I bent over backwards to try to accommodate you as far as I could within our operating parameters here and you are bound and determined to push the envelope. Keep pushing. I can push back a heck of a lot harder. Capisce?

How about YOU really help people and do it, instead of all the yapping?at.evolue wrote:The solution has become the problem.
Why do you keep doing the same thing and expect the situation to change, one fine day, when you are doing said same thing?
All you have to do is write all that you'vre written about these issues, streamlined into concise points, and put it somewhere conspicuous so that
1. Nobody has to ever ask u again
2. You never have to rewrite these stuff umpteen times
3. You stop getting frustrated.
4. You actually really help people.
5. Pp dont have to go through tons of chats where most of wat transpired are convos between u guys, just for info about where to live, what to bring.
I could go on about the benefits...

This reminds me of why I initiated the 'Where should I/we live?' template/FAQ; so newbies can couch a pretty multi-dimensional question in the clearest terms. I'm not suggesting it was anything of great note, just looking at say 10-20 such posted questions and condensing the repeat range of criteria that get stated.
Go on, show what a useful contributor you are. Post a draft of your FAQ and then poll the forum for additions/amendments. Over to you.

Yep. But you do realise I'm not the one sitting in the panel managing this site, and I'm not the one complaining about how this that that this is not doing stuff exactly the way I want it.JR8 wrote:How about YOU really help people and do it, instead of all the yapping?at.evolue wrote:The solution has become the problem.

You see, you guys have been around for awhile helping people ease into SG. That's very admirable, not doing it for money even.
Then u got comfortable and you started getting pissed pp don appreciate u. And wen someone else suggests ways to ease your workload so u don get frustrated, u got even more pissed. Is there any sense in this?
Honestly I'm not good enough to contribute here wrt relo or rent or watever. But I can give u suggestions on how to smooth out the issues and make yur work less tiresome. And I'm not even wanting money from this (how any of u can think that I'm only doing this for money is quite crazy).
Im also here trying to solve problems, just not in the same way u guys are. But so wat? Is it conflicting???
