Hello!

I am new here.

Please can someone give me some information1

I am hoping to move to SG next month. I need some info on working..

I am a uk national- living elsewhere in europe currently, but hold a uk passport.

Do i need to apply for a work visa from this end?

Also, how easy is it to secure employment? I am looking in the retail/ hospitality sector.

thankyou!

You can come in on a tourist visa, you will get 30 - 90 days. You can then look for work but given your industry sector, unless you have some unique skills/experience, you will struggle. It's a tough market for foreigners these days.

Edit: Forgot to mention, your employer will apply for a work pass on your behalf. You can't do it yourself.

Do you know anyone in those sectors already in Singapore?

Otherwise could be a hard slog to get a job.

I've seen few British in high-end champagne brunch places such as Regent Hotel. Not common to see them, but that's a good start.

Working or drinking?

I do know some in the hotel industry but they are at the regional GM level and have been in Asia for years so are very well established in the industry.

OP, Sg isn't like Europe where casual employment is generally available. Here it is much more controlled and at certain levels there are quotas. It will be difficult to get employment in your chosen industry and near impossible to break into any others.

By all means come for a holiday, but have a plan B if you fail to get employment. If you're on a tight budget then go straight to plan B.
