Baggage allowance changes

Post by Brah » Mon, 24 Aug 2015 8:41 pm

On a recent trip I noticed that even for Economy, there was an allowance for 2 check in bags plus the usual 1 carry-on.

Has something changed or am I mis-remembering there being only 1 bag allowance on a lot of flights?

Have you checked the weights and size restriction on your bags? International has always been two bags but domestic in the US is one unless your trip started from abroad as far as I remember. Bags limited to 50 lbs each. I reckon on my return trip in October I'm probably looking at USD200 in excess/extra baggage charges as I might need an extra (3rd bag) when I leave FL as there is some stuff at my sister's house that Dad left me after his passing 2 years ago. I'm traveling empty for all intents and purposes with one suitcase nested in it's larger brother.

Business & 1st class I believe have 70 lb allowances per bag.

It's been that way for quite some time with United. 2 free international bags, 50 lbs, additional bags at cost, unless you are a Premier gold member, in which case you get 3 bags at 70 pounds. Domestically, must pay for bag 1 and 2 unless using United CC, premier member, and other such copswaddle.

I had to look that one up. I've always thought it was based on weight. It is, unless flying to the US or Brazil.

Not sure why I bothered though, I only travel with carry-on.

It wasn't but it depends not only on the carrier, but the destination, each carrier varies for this I believe
