How to look for a job in Singapore from overseas

Post by noskich » Wed, 19 Aug 2015 8:11 am

I know it`s been talked about previously, however, the circumstances change all the time, so I still think it would be valuable for many to discuss again about how to tackle looking for a job in Singapore while being overseas. Job applications online are probably not as good, would listing a Singaporean number which is being redirected to overseas one help? The easiest is to get a transfer within the existing company you work for, but few can do that. Connecting with agents on LinkedIn again probably not ideal. Taking a month off work and coming to Singapore to follow up on online applications and connections with agents?
It is a pretty difficult situation and the visa process does not help. Anything I missed? Thanks.

It still depends. To be honest, just because something does work for someone doesn't mean it will also work for you. For me, I found a job when I go here for vacation and follow up on my online applications. It also depends on what job you are applying for. I am in IT so everything is online.

Also, having a Singapore number on your CV is a so-so advantage. Some companies don't mind anyway if you are still overseas, so if that is the case, then they would still consider your application. The thing is, are you ok going here to Singapore if the company requested it, even if it is not an assured job yet? Some companies here want to have the interview personally, so you should be prepared.

Good luck! :)

Well, yes, I am planning to go there after the Chinese new year next year as I`ve heard that would be the best time for job hunting. In the mean time I made connections with a few Singaporean agents. I think it is too early to apply for jobs, but I will start doing that from the end of the calendar year.

The area is IT project management with a specialisation on PMOs. Project support rather than delivery.

Very tough niche to find work in Singapore. Local companies won't hire you... you're not local. MNC's don't have their PMO's located in Singapore... either in home office in EU, UK, or US, or in cheap countries.
