Hi all.
I've recently been offered a job in Singapore, it's all gone swimmingly until I started pulling together information for my EP.
We moved house recently and some very old paperwork was lost. This was mainly made up of my old school reports, photos and exam certificates.
Having never needed them before I didn't worry too much. Now I'm going through the EP process and I have no documentary evidence. I've contacted old schools and university but the issue I have is that because of my age I'm slightly pre-computer records.
Given my experience in my field is over 12+ years, I decided to use the self assessment tool to see if it threw up an issues which I'm relieved to say it hasn't. Just wondered if anyone else found themselves in a similar situation. I should add that I fully disclosed this to my potential employer and they seem very relaxed about it all.

If you are being offered in the neighbourhood of 12~18k/mo basic salary, you should have no problems.

Thanks it's a $6k a month role basic, so that was my hope.

With qualifications it seems it is only the highest ones that *really* matter IME; I mean hell, lord knows where my parchment exam certs are.
Any credible uni should be able to provide a copy. In fact as you move around the world, or across employers, I'd suggest always having copies of such dox on hand. Some day someones going to ask to see them.
---p.s. philosophical side-thought: What value is a uni degree if a uni cannot confirm you earned it?

I think typically due to my age I'm just on the cusp of things going digital. I think another trip into our loft and cardboard boxes is in order. I explained this to the employee and suggested we declare nothing and go fully on references and the 12+ experience as opposed to make declaration about diplomas and grades which I then would find it difficult to substantiate. Fingers firmly crossed it's not an issue!

Thank you for this but I would never attempt to use a forged documentation regardless, hence my explanation in an earlier post about full disclosure with my new employees.

Side-thought: If MOM can 'conduct additional checks' and presumably evidence qualifications, then how come the subject candidate himself cannot? That makes no sense.
Or is this a case of 'Professor Random at the controls' again?

I think as I stated previously my hope is to find some/all of the certificates.

that image I posted from MOM is not much about fake degree, but the words that speak of 'experience and salary criteria ...'

I was viewing this initially on a mobile device and the image didn't load fully, but yes thank you I can see that there's no single determining factor. Personally I think it's a very sensible system, I just hope I don't encounter any issues.

Without the certs, the one hurdle you will have to cross is this: In the past, there was simply a salary minimum. Now, that salary minimum is also tied to number of years of experience, the theory being that if you've not risen and increased your salary after XX number of years, you're probably not the brightest bulb in the marque; hence, maybe you're not EP material after all.

Thank you for all the information, I'm happy to say the EP was granted with zero issues and I'm now very much looking forward to getting back to Singapore and getting working.
