Thanks SEa, that is a very useful overview, that I don't think I could find elsewhere.

So it looks like a big swing back to the PAP.
Far from making gains, WP have a fight to hold on to their existing seats.
And PAP are heading for well above 60% nationwide.

This sample count thing is really funny. 100 votes is what they take for a sample. Seriously, Is 100 Votes a good enough sample? Its not even 1% of the total votes.
Did you guys just hear what Kenneth Jayaretnam said? I cant believe he said something like that so openly

It's 100 votes from each polling station. There are 832 polling stations.

You need to move your decimal point!

Oops! Yes 4%. Still I am surprised, 4% sample is supposed to have a margin of only +-4% margin of error.

You need to study a bit of statistics. It may look counter-intuitive, but it is possible to compute the sample size which will give 4% confidence level. And usually, the sample size is small.
They do this in elections even in India and US.

And for all the discussion here, I guess you guys are out of touch with reality of how people feel about PAP.

@WD40 - I was not referring to you . I was mostly referring to the know it all people here.
Even if you predicted, it was just a guess. Its not like you had an logical and data-driven evidence for it. So, is there any point in gloating about a correct gues.
The swing in PAP's favor actually shows how badly people here misread the situation.

the swing in favor of the pap means that the locals truly believe that this year's pork barrel gifts are there to last (bonuses for the public function - 'cause the economy is growing sssooo well - jobs bank, etcetc). for a short while, sg has been in heaven, and the locals truly believe all that is here to stay. of course, they are extremely naive and immature (this proves once more that they are not suited for the mid-management jobs they dream of). instead of the heaven staying, they will start paying for the whole electoral cornucopia (most probably, starting next month).
as i said, the smrt breakdowns and the haze is the sad but true face of the local's life. those are to stay.

Pap has been quietly working the ground .... unlike opposition who are just screaming of injustice and cheating ....
and in the meantime at least one party lost their a lot of their minority votes by printing gibberish on banners, and the leader of said party just blamed the printer. When the reporter asked if the party has any minority member to vet the printing, the leader said its confidential ..
I see the minorities have more faith in whites and it's not wrong. And that's a lot

Impressive comeback by PAP and well done to the WP for hanging onto some seats....
I think most expats will breath a sigh of relief at this result (although of course for selfish reasons only).
