PR Application, Wife undecided
PR Application, Wife undecided
I am thinking of applying for PR, but the wife is really undecided at the moment, concerned about potential future male children needing to do N.S.
We agree that if we are living in Singapore, we should give back to Singapore. Especially if we are planning for our kids studying here, etc.
Would it be negatively viewed if I apply P.R. but not for my family ?

Very.
SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers

Adding on ... years ago it didn't matter if you applied as family or not ...sundaymorningstaple wrote:Very.
Now it matters a lot ...

Thanks,
We will try our luck as a family. The next child may not be a boy, who knows ?
We were rejected before back in 2010 (before we got married), and soon after we relocated to Hong Kong. We moved back to Singapore last year as a family and would like to try again.

So... I think your screwed... you left Singapore and now you are back again... it's not your fault... it's the rather idiotic policies of the Gahmen.k3n7 wrote:Thanks,

The gahmen is going to view you as transient... after all, you moved once, what's to stop you from doing that again. And, the gahmen will be all righteous about the reasons why you don't get your PR.
And yet, the gahmen is half the problem. With recent policy, they don't give anyone the sense that they can be permanent in Singapore... you can be screwed and out the door in a New York minute. It's not very realistic of the gahmen to expect unwavering loyalty and guaranteed residence when they will toss your ass on 30 minutes notice.
If you're actually serious about a permanent home in Singapore then file an update with them about what that looks like. OTOH, as an ex expat and PR, no longer on the red dot, I don't see Singapore as interested in me at all.
Re: PR Application, Wife undecided
Is it still worth applying ?
Will it be detrimental to the long term if I apply now ?
i.e. like credit cards, the more you apply the worse the credit file looks like and the harder it becomes to get it

Anyway you wouldn't know your kids going be a girl or boy and it will still be around 18-20 years ahead before he needs to serve. If your kids will be studying here, why worry so much about the N.Sk3n7 wrote: We agree that if we are living in Singapore, we should give back to Singapore. Is that a question ?
Re: PR Application, Wife undecided
Very relevant to any application. Certain nationalities are preferred over others.

I am a British born Chinese,
A qualified Management Accountant, have a degree from London, and currently working in the retail sector.
Currently salary 104k basic, working for an International company.
I got Married in Singapore, to a Hong Kong Chinese.
When we left Singapore last time, we always had full intention to return. Hence we kept all our bank accounts and everything.
Whilst my wife has concerns about our potential child and if they will grow up in Singapore and do NS - I personally would be interested to volunteer for it.
