If PM Lee ever so kindly to go out of his way to do that for you, why would ICA dare to deny his letter then?

(The only persons I can imagine PM Lee going that far for, are the Sabahan guides who single-handedly rescued the Singaporean students during the Kinabalu earthquake that killed their classmates.)

You gotta think: "Why would the prime minister entertain a request from a person he mostly doesn't know asking to be PR?" If he did that, what's the point then of having a whole government agency handling permanent residency?

Actually that is something I have pondered , what is the point of getting PM/MP/politician to send a letter of appeal regarding PR application.

If the Dept changes its mind based upon this letter, and with no additional information contained within/accompanying this letter , then what is the point of said department?

Yes, but if no extra detail, other than Mr/Mrs/Ms A are really nice folk, is given in the appeal letter , and the appeal is succesful , then what is the pont of the ICA?

I know enough cases where, shockingly, the MPs letter didn't influence the outcome of the appeal, which was rejection.

However, the good news being, with a MP letter, ICA took another look, than refusing, though rejection letters came faster after that appeal, vs regular submissions and rejections.

For example, to override immigration guidelines in specific cases. Sort of what Lynx mentioned but probably had to be stronger yet not widely publicised. A donor giving free his blood for 20y to Singaporeans could be a good candidate. I don't think any middle level ICA officer/head would do anything about this and they would not propagate such case any higher.
