Re Entry Permit

Post by Bakulii » Thu, 04 Jun 2015 5:34 pm

Just wanted to share.

My wife's and son's REP were about to expire (1st 5 years) and being a kiasu, I applied for their renewal 3 months ahead of the expiry date, in anticipation of having to wait for the approval process etc etc.

To my surprise, it was approved within seconds of submitting the online application and they now have a new REP valid for the next 5 years, but validity date now ending exactly 5 years from date of application. meaning to say, we lost the "3 months" because of my overzealous good intention to apply early!

Just sharing for those who are about to do their REP renewals and having the same idea as me ie to apply much earlier within the 3 months before expiry.

I think this was mentioned before..

But if the 3 months extra stay is so precious how about applying closer to the expiry date and finding out the renewal wasn't successful ?

Or is it that you have no plan to take up Sc ?

So what is your suggestion ? Apply 1 day before expiry ?

I thought this was the main purpose for this forum, to share our experiences?
I'm not telling others how to make their own decisions but hope that they can use actual past experience of mine to make up their own mind. :P

I also renewed my REP very early. We lost 3 months but gained peace of mind. Also you cannot anticipate events such as retrenchment which will put your REP renewal into jeopardy.
