Another person falls to death at Swissotel The Stamford
Another person falls to death at Swissotel The Stamford
SCDF confirms that a man was found dead at Swissotel The Stamford five days after an Australian was reported dead there. An eyewitness tells Channel NewsAsia that the body was mangled on impact and only the legs could be seen.
An eyewitness, who was about 50 metres away when the body fell to the ground, told Channel NewsAsia that the body landed between the hotel's main entrance and the Raffles City Shopping Centre McDonald's entrance.
Five days earlier on May 30, an Australian woman in her 50s was found dead at the parapet of the second floor of the same hotel. Channel NewsAsia understands that she fell from the 60th floor of the building. No foul play is suspected, the earlier report said.

In the link there was a paragraph about the balconies on the higher floors being accessible, quite unfortunate that it could eventually end up killing people.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

If they were jumpers, at least it has slowed down the traffic at Bedok Reservoir.

I hope the police gets to the bottom of this fast. The coincidence of five cases (two being the recent ones) is getting unnerving.

I hope the police don't get to the bottom as fast as the jumpers did!
How many feet does it take to reach terminal velocity?

They should replace the glass walk way with anti suicide netting

How about anti suicide trees that can absorb the impact ? Nice idea I guess.

Maybe they should revert back to Westin Stamford.... to rid the bad energymenudown wrote:one after another...is there something wrong with this hotel?

By the way there have been two jumpers at MBS if I am correct, one ending at the road - old ECP, none made so much news ...

Re: Another person falls to death at Swissotel The Stamford
For a human body terminal velocity is about 120 m/h / 200 k/h / 56 m/s. From rest, it would take about 5.7 to 6.5 seconds to reach this velocity depending upon total wind resistance... (v = gt or t = v/g - no wind resistance).sundaymorningstaple wrote:How many feet does it take to reach terminal velocity?
Distance is calculated as d = 0.5 * g * t^2 = 0.5 * 9.8 * (5.7^2 to 6.5^2) = 160 to 207 meters or 525 to 680 feet. So, that person would either need to be up near the 50th story or higher or did not make contact with terra firma at terminal velocity.

The Australian woman five days ago went off the 60th story so I would guess she was maxed out when she hit. The guy, today, they haven't said yet, or I've missed it.

56 m/s, isn't it too much? as far as i know, the space capsule lands at 10 m/s or below - and they have re-entry seats.Strong Eagle wrote:For a human body terminal velocity is about 120 m/h / 200 k/h / 56 m/s. in any case, they should just not allow balcony access. quick fix.

Well, there are some picture of the Aussie lady, minus the headsundaymorningstaple wrote:The Australian woman five days ago went off the 60th story so I would guess she was maxed out when she hit. The guy, today, they haven't said yet, or I've missed it.

And the latest guy, well, apparently nothing much was left, vs the Aussie Lady

briannabanks: I am saving up money, to stay there, during the F1 Season

Anyway, back home, we had a lady in an office nearby, who tried to commit suicide, by jumping out of the window. From the 4th Floor. She ended up damaging the nice Pajero of my colleague, and sort of just broke her leg I think. She was charged, treated and then her former employer agreed to take her back. A few months later, she did the same thing, and broke an arm or so. Repeat previous process - can't recall who's vehicle she damaged this time.
Then she figured out, the next attend, she opened the window, and while pretending to watch the traffic, and in full view of some of the security of the next building, decided to try one more time, but head first- and she succeeded

It wasn't an attempt to make fun of her suicide tries, but, for some, there seems to be not much that can be done, other than to lock them up for their own safety
