I agree with JR8. There are only two options: satisfaction or lack of dissatisfaction (lack of fear etc etc). No third, void option. Nothing moves on without a stimuli whether we realize it or not.
But then, this is how it works so I don't see anything negative if ones (sub)conscious motivation for helping other people is personal satisfaction. Just opposite, it's something positive providing driving force.

when locals come here
Re: when locals come here
It wasn't meant to take away anything from what you've contributed SMS that's why I qualified it as a philosophical bent. I think its exceedingly rare to have true altruism, I won't discount it being impossible but that's a discussion for bearded men, smoking pipes and a fine brew.

Re: RE: Re: when locals come here
I guess that too but I was referring to the Singapore Escort advert that popped up briefly yesterday. In hindsight it did describe the offerings as "Voluptuous" so perhaps the "Singapore" reference might have been a little bit of creative marketing.the lynx wrote:You mean to rant about their women?bgd wrote:Or rent their women - that was earlier today, since removed.

Re: when locals come here
I saw that ad briefly and I thought high-class escort is as much an oxymoron as cheap-hooker is a redundancy

Let's see.....I've got the beard, I like fine brew and I used to smoke a pipe (20 years). Could be a discussion.Sporkin wrote:It wasn't meant to take away anything from what you've contributed SMS that's why I qualified it as a philosophical bent. SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers

This made me chuckle to myself and remember when I did exactly that - except for the meet part - I/we did everything up to that.JR8 wrote:As with any internet forum I think your perception of others builds over time. I'm not going out and meeting anyone from the internet 1-1 except someone I've chatted to for some time, and preferably met at a group meet-up, AND like.
This is when I used my old, harsher online persona, was single, connected with a forum regular in a quasi-romantic context, sent her my picture (which I normally would never do) at her request, then she gave me reason to regret it immediately thereafter (even then I still tried to maintain some semblance of anonymity).
The thing is, I knew there something was a bit fishy.
Well, it gave the forum a bit of a laugh anyway.
