In fact ten plus years ago, a lot of maids used to troll bars, even on week days, especially those who's bosses are expats, and some local bosses allowed the Dh to make some pocket money ... till they all got edged out by cheaper FT on SVP ... I guess ...JR8 wrote:Oh yes, SMS is the Subject Matter Expert I'm sure hehehe....
Mostly foreigners, Indon, PH, Maids doing 'after-hours', plus a few local kids who wanted to buy $-handbags and shoes.

I found another topic from this site more attractive:

Some of the linked videos are pretty entertaining.

Re: No more beer @ Coffee Shop?
The early 80's were a mixture of mainly local girls (SPGs and out and out hookers) and a mixture of Indo and/or Thai girls. Oh, and the TV's down at Bugis Street. Wasn't until the mid to late '90's that the locals started disappearing (or limiting themselves to KTV lounges) and the various other SE Asian flavours came to the fore for the general tourist/international trade. I don't think the 'peens trade started until around 2000, and as JR8 alluded to, a lot, if not the majority at the time were moonlighting maids. Of course, I wasn't involved, mainly watching from the sidelines as an observer as my wife was a singer in a local country band and could keep an eye on me when I wasn't offshore! :-/

Orchard Towers was like mother-load-central. What were the bars called? 'Top Ten' was one. (and the all day 'Uncle tea-dance' places hehe....)
But there was another about 2 floors down. lol....
Probably a government franchised branch of 'Richemont'/Cartier now.... lol
..... '392'?..... lol, yeah, that was it.... bad, bad place.

The local coffee shop / hawker near my place still sells beer (I walked there last night to check). Alhamdulliah!

I would say that's normal. When Beijing Olympics happened, the Chinese government went on frenzied mode trying to clean up public toilets and to nip spitting habits.

Ah well. We actually have a regular drinking session at my condo (fortnightly). We all bring down wine and beer. It's quite friendly and I'm usually the only westerner.
