This position cannot be purged, so my contract renewal is inevitable. But why haven't I got the official offer for renewal yet, that still beats me. Are they too complacent, that I am not going to quit?

The two times time I got cut, I had really believed I was irreplaceable. Just a middling guy, but doing a pivotal job. Then they wiped out the whole department. Boom. Absolutely stunning and shocking.

The employer is never loyal. Forget corporate loyalty, there's no such thing, it's a lie.

My last employment found it easier to throw me out, vs others as I never hid information (like other guys did ..) but it was enlightenment

Those who hid information saw their pink slip few months after me. ..

Alas, I did again believe the boss' awe inspiring speeches .. about loyalty etc. And how the management vaulues long term committed employees ... though this was not my first job

They were more convincing than others I guess

Hi Strong Eagle,

Just wanted to say a big thank you, to you. You were perfectly right in your assessment that my company indeed had budget issues which is why my contract renewal got delayed. Eventually they renewed it just 2 weeks before expiry and but it was for only 6 months. It was kind of shocking. But luckily I got another job offer so it didnt affect me much. Also my manager just told me that my position is not going to be replaced after I quit, they are just going to let another temp guy for another dept come and help. And all this while I was thinking that my position is critical. :-o

I appreciate you taking the time to let us all know how things turned out. And glad to know that you have a permanent job.

I have watched all sorts of companies shoot themselves in the foot for failure to adequately plan and budget. All too often what happens is that a reasonable work plan is put together, with realistic cost and personnel requirements. Someone in the food chain decides that is too much and slashes the budget, but of course, doesn't touch the deliverables or schedule.

Someone like you is onboard under the reduced resources plan and of course, everything turns to shit because the forced schedule and budget cannot be met. Your contract is not renewed, or renewed only for a short time because a) they think a temp will do it, or b) they think a miracle will occur and it will all get done.

In the end, the schmoes who cut personnel and budget end up spending way more than they would have, if only they had followed the realistic course of action.

So, maybe you were critical... but no one will ever admit to that.
