Lost Passport Query

Post by vivek34538 » Mon, 20 Apr 2015 4:56 pm

Hi All,

Recently, Last saturday my wife has come to Singapore on Dependent Visa (IPA COPY).
Unfortunately, we lost her passport when we went on shopping to Little India. We had to take passport along with us to buy a sim card.

While, we lodged a complaint with the malls we visited (Mustafa,City Square Mall), we also have lodged a complaint with the local police.

Unfortunate part is that the Embarkation card issued is also lost along with the passport.

Its been a week now since she lost it. As she is holding an INDIAN passport, I visited High Commision Of India to apply for a new passport. They asked us to wait for a period of 2 weeks for some one to return the lost passport. After 2 weeks they will accept my application for duplicate passport it seems

Also, i've visited ICA building in Lavender to get a new Embarkation card. They have issued a new Replacement Embarkation card and a letter to High commision of India to issue a new passport.

Now, my question is, the embarkation/immigration card has a validity of 30 days. Before that time period, i need to apply for a dependent pass for her and get it. What are my chances of extending the immigration period for more days.

Also, the letter given by ICA has validity for 3 days. So we have to go visit ICA office every 3 days to get it renewed and the High commision is not ready to accept the application before 2 weeks and the processing time for new application is 12-14 days as per them.

Date of her arrival : 11-Apr-2015

Please advice.

Regards,
Vivek

Have you tried explaining this to ICA and asking for a longer period than 3 days? If they won't accept it, then you're SOL. Your country's bureaucracy is to blame unfortunately.

I think the indian embassy can provide an emergency passport for a return flight home (only) in worse case.

But frankly the Indian embassy is staffed by idiots and aholes.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Yes, I too was wondering why the Indian HIGH COMMISSION didn't issue an emergency certificate

EC is good for one journey back home
