Expat forums?

Post by retroman » Thu, 09 Apr 2015 7:27 pm

Are there any other Singapore expat forums? Is this the most popular one?

Just curious

This is by far the most constructive and civil one that you'll find IMHO.

There is another (I forget it's name), that I joined before this one, years back. It seems to be dominated by angry local teens, and angry local expat haters, despite it's target market. I wouldn't bother seeking it out, unless that's what you're after of course, but that's JMHO....

p.s. You'll occasionally hear reference made here to 'The Angry Board', that's it; and if you happen to ever find it it'll take you 2 minutes to realise why...

We've been number one in the google rankings for "expat forum singapore" for at least the past 5 years. I just tried it for the 1st time this year. We occupy the 1st & 2nd hits on the page. Of course, on of our regulars here is also a regular on another forum (not the AB or Angry Board) and basically takes all the info we post here and tries to make like he's the all knowing guru on the other site. But it apparently gets him off and doesn't hurt our rankings so we let him be.

There are many out there, run by expatforum and alloexpat, to mention a couple.

But these are not Singapore-specific message boards and Singapore is just another small tab to these pages. This one is specifically Singapore-centric forum so you get really handy info.

I'll have you to know that since the regulars and moderators here are just people like you and me, with jobs, family and stuff, sometimes we do not have the time to respond to repetitive posts or posts that aren't just worth our time (we are just volunteers). In that case, the Search function in this forum is very helpful to search for threads of similar topics. There is a wealth of information in there!

There's a topic by an ultra-zealot evangelical creationist, name of Manou or Panou or similar. He can post 20 times a day, each pages long, quoting the bible and... well, trying to disprove evolution I suppose.

It you ever encounter that forum, I think you'll know it

There's /r/Singapore....at least, apparently it was like so before I came in at the beginning of this year...

Not really much of an expat place. Many locals, but not as helpful as the regulars in this forum if you're new in town :)

And the downvoters in the subreddit is just plain juvenile.
