Netflix or Hulu in Singapore

Post by dave. » Sat, 14 Mar 2015 9:56 pm

Hi All,

Just wondering, does any body know how to setup Netflix so I can watch it in Singapore?
Have tried to google it, but mostly IT words, VPN, DNS, IP address bla bla bla.. I'm not from IT background, so I don't understand a single word of it, and got lost when trying to follow the steps.
So, just wondering is there any service that can help to set it up with a low cost?
Sorry, Netflix-addict. ](*,)

Btw for those who doesn't know what is Netflix, it's a place that we can stream movies or TV shows(with HD quality) anytime and anywhere. We can also watch it in iPad, iPhone or apple TV. The shows range is quite complete. and the best parts are, it will not put a hole in my wallet and Ads-free!!!
Well, I can download shows(torrent) but i just feel like to support or at least contributing a little bit, so people over there will keep doing the good job, so we can watch a good movie/TV show.
ok, I'm not Netflix ambassador, So, if you want to know more, just google it.

Thanks in advance.

Search the forums for "MyRepublic" or "ViewQuest".

ViewQwest are very cheap and have great connection speeds from my experience. If you are already tied into a contract with Starhub or Singtel, then you can also look at Unblock-us.com. Bear in mind, android Netflix app does not work with VPN at all though! I've tinkered plenty in KL and can't get it working.

Hi, thanks all for the reply. All is well now. found a service that help me to set it up on my laptop and iPad. with a low S$30 per device, which is quite reasonable price for me. I called them and made an appointment, the guy came on time and only spent about 15mins to set it up and was quite friendly to entertain all my stupid-IT-related-questions. really hassle-free. was quite happy will over all the service. So, it's worth it for me. Contact me if you need the number, since i cannot post it in here?
So happy, back to normal after-office-hours-routine, Sit down with a snack on my hands and watching Netflix.
hahaha...

I was thinking the same! $5 (USD) a month for all devices is standard I'd say

That was to get him set up, not the monthly rate. I'd pay that as a techno-phobe

Well, the thing is it shouldn't be "per device". Any reasonable solution would only involve changing a setting in your router (DNS assigned to clients), or just using a different ISP that does it all automagically.

And I'd do it for your JR8 for a G&T. :)

...which on second thought in Singapore is approaching that S$30 =P~

:) If you were to pop over and fix my M1 fibre connection, never mind a G+T it'd be dinner on me.

It went down last week, and [shaking my head still in disbelief] I now find myself back on a Starhub prepaid dongle. Since the domestic IT-guru is away, it's the best I can do in the meanwhile.

p.s. I'll post separately re: the Starhub top-page not loading/'resolving' properly. It's that desperate, I can't even get that to work!

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

It has been 'fackin' doin' my bleedin' head in!!', in Anglo-Saxon.

Finally I seem, via the wife on the phone for almost an hour, managed some kind of fix...

Must say I am enjoying my Netflix on my VPN router, finally. Took a bit of config work and help from the vendor but that comes with the package.

I use "hola" to allow me to subscribe to netflix. The advantage of hola is that once you are subscribed, you can change the country from USA , say Canada, or Australia and view other content available in other countries.

by the way, it's free, and seamlessly integrates into chrome browser

Hola is "free", but peer-to-peer meaning other users of the service may share your connection. Caveat emptor.
