car electrician

Post by x9200 » Tue, 10 Mar 2015 6:22 pm

I would like to hide the cables from the dashboard DVR and hook the DVR up internally to the power source. It's a trivial thing to do if you know what to lever and how brutal you could be with removing of the interior plastic parts. Unfortunately I don't know and don't want to have the parts hanging later out of the roof or the dashboard if I brake something.
Getting to the point: may someone please recommend a reasonable (work quality, pricing) electrician who could do this kind of job?

For any auto-work, this and far more serious, people I know go to JB. If you hadn't considered it, maybe look for a tip there.

Golden Hill Auto Trading
223 Jalan Kayu
Singapore 799447

(or it might be next door - but easy to find - look for cars with their dashes in pieces in the front car park).

A friend had exactly the same thing done there last week.

Thanks PNGMK, I will try to contact them.

I think it is not a big job so going to JB, especially without knowing any specific workshop would probably be an overkill. Not sure how much I should expect to pay, but I reckon it should not be more than $100.

Thanks Taxico. No, not yet. Wifey drives the car and is busy. Could you share (PM perhaps) how much did you pay?

he installed a dash cam for my wife for free. we didn't buy the camera from him although he sells them.

just as a guide (both examples are 2014 pricing): he charged me $10 for labour when replacing a pair of speakers (nothing purchased from him). this required removal of door panels, and re-drilling of existing speaker mounts. this was a 20-30 minute job.

for replacement of 4 speakers, including all cables, head unit (i bought audio cables and a big fuse from him), i think his labor was $15. he worked on this for over 3 hours.

i'm due soon to remove 2 speakers and a head unit from my wife's car, and i'll post an update when i have done so.

it cannot have gone up more than 10-20%. i believe it should be about the same price...
