What pre-paid to pick?

Post by tom_box » Sun, 08 Mar 2015 10:21 pm

I am moving to SG and will not have all things settled at the beginning still looking for a flat and figuring things out, so I want to pick a prepaid card.

Last time I had starhub when I visted SG and it was quite a horrifying experience. These pre-paids are complicated, with dozen of rules, exceptions, promotions, programs, incoming call charge etc.

It seems that all providers to do that to an extent, but I was wondering if people with more experience could give me some advice in this area?

P.S. I must also mention the fact that after getting a new starhub prepaid, I got several spam calls per day, some even calling me 15 times per day if I did not pick up, while I have not given my number to anyone.

My 2 cents .. for me All are the same though Some may disagree

Minor benefits exist ..

Starhub was offering low rates to Malaysia I think

Likewise singtel allows you to transfer load to some overseas pre paid sim

For spam that is not the operator

Your number may be a recycled niumber and the previous user may have been a Casanova or the female equivalent or liked to pass out the phone number for every promo ..

I use Starhub prepaid and have no problems. Been using it for a year and 1/2 now.
It's fairly straight forward i think. I believe you have to register the simcard using your passport, but that's a legal thing, not starhub.

I rarely use the phone aspect of my phone/service.. mostly i use it for data and the $20 package is more then enough to get me through an entire month. So $20 for data and maybe a few dollars for voice keeps me way below a minimum package that anyone offers.
When I need to make the odd call, it works just fine. Reloading it is no problem online either.

The spam calls you got have nothing to do with starhub and have to do with the number being previously owened.

I'm pretty much the same as the above, just I have Singtel pre-paid. Top-up online is easy.

I get no spam calls (I registered on the 'Do not Call' service). I get the occasional spam-ad, but these seem mostly from or linked to Singtel promotions.

Previously only M1 would give you 4G/LTE on a pre-paid card. If that is important to you, check with Singtel before committing with them.
