Singapore sentences young German vandals to nine months in prison for spray-painting train
A Singapore court has sentenced two young German men to nine months in prison and three strokes of the cane for spray-painting a metro train in the city-state last year.
Andreas Von Knorre, 22, and Elton Hinz, 21, were sentenced after pleading guilty to vandalism and trespassing. Both asked for mercy before sentencing and called their acts a "stupid mistake".
"The imprisonment sentence is nine months in total and the mandatory three strokes of the cane," District Judge Liew Thiam Leng said.
[..]
Both men fled Singapore after the incident but were caught in neighbouring Malaysia en route to Australia and extradited.
This is why I like Singapore every day pragmatic face of the legal system.

I'm kind of curious how they tracked these guys to Malaysia so fast. I assume they weren't just hanging out for a few weeks in KL.

To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

What is the attraction with trains? These aren't the first Euros to do this. Wasn't there a Swiss and a Brit who did the same thing a while back?

Could be they were hanging for some time in KL but these morons trespassed to the MRT actually not once, not twice but 3 times over 3 days so getting the level of the street invigilation expected around and in such object the police likely had plenty of data to identify and locate them.

I guess the same attraction as smashing stuff, burning police cars during the WEF/world bank/imf conferences ...
Does anybody recall the Singapore solution during the last IMF working committee in Singapore?

They should have stayed at home and surfed the internet like good little citizens.
I am pretty sure they knew what would happen if they got caught.
Its given someone a job cleaning up the trains.
Whats the difference with this and leaving your table covered in leftover food.
I would prefer folk got caned for that myself....

Yeah. And three times in and out makes it especially easy.
Kids, turn off your phones. Better, leave them ON and at home. Or, have a similar looking friend carry them around some other part of the island. Make a few calls too.

The Aussie dumb ass press is almost comparing the case to the Bali 2/9 death sentence. You can just see the journo trying to draw a comparison.
