Why does the butcher have to be organic? Can't he just sell organic meat?

Re: Where
I don't know, people don't seem to care where the meat is from around these parts, anything non traditional in the slightest sense will be overpriced here, that is the norm.Neha3 wrote:Any suggestions? Organic meats are super expensive hererajagainstthemachine wrote:from an organic butcher

That mirrors what I was going to say.rajagainstthemachine wrote: I don't know, people don't seem to care where the meat is from around these parts, anything non traditional in the slightest sense will be overpriced here, that is the norm.
The local market favours what is cheap, rather than what is fancy.
By definition organic food is expensive everywhere (in the world). No growth hormones, no pesticides etc., equates to less yield for the farmer. Less yield + fixed costs = higher output/retail prices.
Added to which the concept of organic food might be largely a niche thing with some expats = expat-orientated (EO) retailers, in EO malls in top$ EO neighbourhoods = $$$product.
So I think organic and cheap is an impossible contradiction. But if you do have any joy investigating it it might be of use/interest to others in the future. Good luck!

well there is organic milk available in fair price finest these days, apparently its not too pricey either, and its some Australian brand which claims they leave their cows out to graze and don't give their animals massive doses of drugs.
I did try it because price wise it was not different from the other brands.
After moving here I switched to seafood more than eating red meat. Looking back it was quite a logical decision too, considering how easily and cheap fresh seafood costs here compared to other places.

Try to get in touch with meat importer like The Butcher (they have stores in Holland Village and Frankel Avenue). They might be able to help you import with a premium, or know someone who sells organic one at least.

I'll never quite understand why somebody would try to use affordable and organic in the same room, let alone in the same sentence.

Re: Where can I buy affordable organic meat in Singapore?
It all depends on what you call affordable... I just came back from Singapore a few days ago, i was there visiting friends and they told me about this place. I don't know what their meat is worth but they have all kinds of organic grass fed meat. Although it comes frozen and they say it's from Ireland on the website : http://www.secretsfinefood.com.sg/butch ... -lamb.html. Maybe it's worth to check out !

Grass-fed does NOT mean organic.

I know, that's why I said I had no idea what it was worth, but I don't see the point of grass-feeding if you don't do organic. I think it's worth to contact them and see if it is indeed organic. I have no idea, I was just suggesting...sundaymorningstaple wrote:Grass-fed does NOT mean organic.
