I always thought what happened around ISIS was similar in the level of fundamentalism to the crusaders time Christianity but pointing out to the systematics of the approach is very interesting.
Still I think, the motives of the ISIS leaders are for me not that clear as it is presented in the article. After-all it is about the politics and the politicians need to make the story convincing, even more convincing if one wants to pretend he follows some fundamental dogma.

Terrible.
It reminds me of the Khmer Rouge and their rubbing out of progress, history, idolatry, and desire to return to Year Zero. The Taliban too, in several ways, and their ideological fanaticism...
Ref:
'They were dynamited and destroyed in March 2001 by the Taliban, on orders from leader Mullah Mohammed Omar,[4] after the Taliban government declared that they were idols.[5] An envoy visiting the United States in the following weeks explained that they were destroyed to protest international aid exclusively reserved for statue maintenance while Afghanistan was experiencing famine,[6] while the Afghan Foreign Minister claimed that the destruction was merely about carrying out Islamic religious iconoclasm.'

Have you see the ISIS "American Sniper" rip off film? 3 minutes of supposed ISIS sniper action with a Draganov.

Might be worthwhile double-checking that, TE. I read citizens and PRs only, but including the rest makes more sense eh.
