Suggestions: Brauhaus at United Square, Novena (2 stops on from Orchard) http://www.brauhaus.com.sg/html/aboutus.html Mrs. JR8 went last week and thought it was good.
Brotzeit: 313 Somerset - outdoors under a huge glass canopy roof, Raffles City, (and others) http://www.brotzeit.co/outlet/singapore
Pros: Easy for public transport afterwards. Taxis also apparently good from Novena, even if late.
Good food options.
Huge range of beers, some very interesting.
Cosmopolitan atmosphere and crowd.
Cons: The Orchard area might be less of a natural crossing point for all [?]
The beer will be more than $25/jug, but I'd favour smaller+quality over larger+economy.
Just my 2C!
Edit to add: http://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Restauran ... apore.html - Up on a hill in Queenstown. Veeeery different, like going through a time warp to the 50s/60s. You can almost imagine sitting in a remote hill-side hill-station barracks in some colonial outpost. Best beer/cider fridge I ever seen in SG, relatively good pxs too considering the peculiarly niche/high-end beers they stock. - BUT sadly, not simple to get to...
Just suggesting it, not as an Eagle's venue, but as a place FTs here should go and experience once, given how completely different it is from the norm...
